JOHNSONBURG â Kristine Breindel, the new Title I reading teacher at Johnsonburg Elementary School, can truly share her love for reading with her students because she says she truly does love to read.
âI realize this sounds clichĂ© but I truly do love to read,â Breindel said. âMy family always comments on how I spend my spare time reading.â
Breindel enjoys teaching because she gets to help her students with a meaningful task.
âI enjoy being there each day to work with the students in order to provide reading and writing support in a relevant and meaningful way,â said Breindel.
JOHNSONBURG â Johnsonburg girls tennis won its first match of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Clearfield Wednesday afternoon at Johnsonburg Area High School.
âI feel good for them, they work hard,â Johnsonburg coach Gregg Dauber said. âThey were there, they were there the last several matches. Theyâre close, they finally broke through. Iâm happy for them. Itâs not from a lack of effort, they work really hard.â
At No. 1 singles, Taylor Scida won 6-1, 6-2 over Lauren Whitmer of Clearfield. Riley Fannin of Johnsonburg was victorious at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Yesh Patel.
ST. MARYS â The St. Marys Area High School golf team split with Ridgway and Kane on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Kane Wolves 223-257, but lost to the Ridgway Elkers 208-223 on Wednesday afternoon at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Ridgwayâs Jesse Reynolds was the overall medalist for the day with a three-over-par round of 38. Kaneâs Ryan Greto led his team with a 44. Low scorers for St. Marys Area were Rudy Gleixner and Sam Miller with 40s.
ST. MARYS â The Ridgway Lady Elker soccer team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch a 4-1 loss Wednesday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS soccer field.
St. Marys came out the aggressor in the match, but could not keep the pressure on the Ridgway defense as they were not able to get a shot on goal in the early going.
Ridgway got on the board first when Rhianon Fowler scored with 33:32 left in the first half. She would score at the 20:25 mark, giving the Lady Elkers a 2-0 lead at the half.

JOHNSONBURG â Changes to the bus routes in the Johnsonburg Area School District have forced many parents to question their children's safety.
A large group of concerned parents attended Thursday night's school board meeting looking for answers to the change.
Ridgway Area School District superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien reviewed the board's goals for the upcoming year during Tuesday night's regular meeting.
"As you know we started to and we will continue to review our goals to help us understand why we are here," O'Brien said. "One of our goals is that our students will become creative problem solvers with the ability to synthesize and analyze possible solutions to challenging problems."
Another goal of the board is to make sure the students are receiving comprehensive literacy skills.
SMETHPORT â The âRails To Trailsâ feasibility study has been finalized and now is available for public inspection at the county planning office.
The McKean County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday that claims the âproject was completed in accordance with the grant agreement.â
âThe plan and related materials will be used to guide future recreation and conservation decisions,â the commissioners said in the resolution adopted at a meeting at the county courthouse.
Charles Edward King, age 67, a resident of Elgin, South Carolina, died Sept. 8, 2011, Columbia, South Carolina following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 7, 1943, in DuBois, son of Robert E. and Betty J. Steinbach King
On Aug. 15, 1963, he married Sylvia Kay Hicks. She preceded him in death.
Occupation: Charles was a 1962 graduate of Brockway High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from September of 1962 until August of 1966. He retired from Owens-Brockway Glass where he worked in repair and construction services.
Ridgway boys golf was victorious Tuesday afternoon with a 207-223 victory over Bradford at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Jordan Lundin led Ridgway with a 40. Josh Mitchell, Jesse Reynolds and Jake Klawuhn all carded scores of 41. Eric Matheson rounded out the top five with a 44.
T.J. Schlimm finished with a 46 and Josh Roselli had a mark of 48. Matt Aiello carded a 49 for the Elkers.
Bradfordâs Josh Stauffer earned medalist honors with a 39. Jeff Cattoni had a 45 for the Owls. Tom Morlock and Josh Mongillo each had scores of 46 and Seth Mollander had a score of 47.
A pivotal 10-minute stretch in the second half helped Kane win 3-0 against Ridgway in boys soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway.
After a scoreless first half, Kane was able to finally break through three minutes into the second half as Jack Wolfe assisted on a goal by Will Carley to put the Wolves ahead 1-0. Carley returned the favor a little over eight minutes later as he assisted on a finish by Wolfe for a 2-goal lead in Kaneâs favor.
