Students at St. Leo Catholic School await the bus Wednesday afternoon after their first day of school. Area students were back in the classroom Wednesday as students began the 2013-2014 school year.
Richard G. Mendat, 81, DuBois, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Christ The King Manor, DuBois.
There was no public visitation. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Carmela T. (Millie) Caggiano, age 79, of 517 Montmorenci Ave., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 20, 2013 at her residence following a brief illness.
BENEZETTE TWP. â€“Â A Weedville man was killed early Tuesday morning on SR 555 in Benezette Township following a collision with an elk that was in the roadway.
The possibility of a home rule charter reared its head again Tuesday during a Ridgway Township board of supervisors meeting, however no official action was taken.

James E. Reiter, 85, of Brownell Drive, Rasselas, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 17, 1928 in Philipsburg, son of the late James Earl and Jean (Price) Reiter Sr.
On May 2, 1948 he married Naoma (Thompson), and she survives.
He was born and raised in Philipsburg and has lived in Rasselas since 1973. He was a graduate of Philipsburg High School, Class of 1946.
He served in U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1948 with a Seaman Apprentice, Music Striker rating.
The Ridgway Borough Council on Monday voted 6-1 to turn over billing responsibilities for water, sewer and refuse to Schutz & Company, run by Jeff Schutz, a Ridgway accountant.
ST. MARYS â€“ At 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 the Crystal Fire Department and St. Marys Ambulance were called to 643 South Michael Street in St. Marys for reports of a structure fire. The Fox Township Fire Department was called to assist at 7:26 p.m. Members of the Crystal Fire Department were reportedly called back to the scene at 11:24 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 for public service.
BENEZETTE â€“ Nice weather on Saturday made for a good time for hundreds of individuals who descended upon the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette for the revival of the Pa. Great Outdoors Elk Expo after a hiatus of several years.
