Mass. manhunt different from local area

With the Boston area population on edge during a massive manhunt to locate Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings, local law enforcement officials on Friday shared their thoughts with the search and the differences in such practices in the immediate area.

Police: Home invasion suspect high on bath salts

ST. MARYS – Police were called to a St. Marys home late Thursday night when a burglary turned into a violent encounter between the homeowner and an intruder reportedly high on the stimulant drug known as bath salts.

Night work expected to begin Sunday night on state Route 255 in St. Marys

ST. MARYS – Work to improve a northern section of Route 255 in the City of Saint Marys began late last month. The project stretches from the Tractor Supply intersection to Route 120/State Street in Saint Marys. Work this year will concentrate on the section between Wendy’s Burgers and Satterlee Fueling.

Danz pleads guilty in federal court Thursday

ERIE – A St. Marys man charged with siphoning off a half-million dollars from a local animal shelter and rescue as well as clients of his own financial service companies, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering Thursday in an Erie federal court.

Peterson fires 12K in 2-1 win over DCC

OHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg starting pitcher Cole Peterson overcame two sloppy early innings Thursday before throwing fireballs past DuBois Central Catholic batters Thursday in a 2-1 win.
Peterson struck out 12 batters in a 5-hit complete game win, at one time retiring nine batters in a row en route to the victory.

Ridgway softball falls to Curwensville

Ridgway softball lost 5-0 to a Curwensville on a windy Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Consistent winds of 15-20 mph were blowing out throughout the game and the Lady Tide were able to take advantage of the wind blowing out in the first inning. Sarah Wriglesworth led off the game by reaching on a Ridgway defensive miscue. Taylor Goodman followed with a bloop single to left. After a Curwensville flyout, cleanup hitter Tiffany Carter launched a 3-run home run to center field which gave the Lady Tide a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

'Seussical' the musical opening tonight at ECC

ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic High School students are bringing the colorful and unique world of Dr. Seuss to life in 'Seussical,' as part of the school's annual musical production.
