Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School principal Anne Herzing and Ridgway Area Middle and High School Principal Heather McMahon-Vargas shared information concerning upcoming standardized testing for the Ridgway Area School District as well as past performance data within the area schools.
The Ridgway Public Library is still accepting donations of pennies or any other spare change for their Million Pennies Campaign. The fundraiser, which began in September of 2012, will continue until the library has reached its goal of raising $10,000.
BRADFORD â€“ A preliminary hearing for suspended Kane police chief Brian Hillard will not take place today as scheduled.
A spokesman for Bradford District Court Judge Dominic Cercone Jr. said Tuesday that the hearing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m.
Bryan D. King, 57, of Morley Road, Ashville, N.Y., formerly of Mayville, N.Y., Westfield, N.Y., and Ridgway, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at the home of his sister in Stow, N.Y.
He was born March 30, 1956 in Westfield, N.Y., the son of Mary E. (Bowser) and J. Bryan (Buster) King.
Bryan was a 1974 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School.Â He was employed at various jobs in Westfield, N.Y., Ridgway, and most recently at The Hadley House in Stow, N.Y.Â
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg volleyball won 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 22-25, 28-26) over Ridgway Monday night in a match held at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Ridgway won the third set to send the match to a fourth set and the Lady Elkers took the momentum early, scoring six of first eight points. At 9-5, Ridgway scored five straight points as Johnsonburg had trouble returning serve. A Sierra Kos had the Ridgway lead up to nine at 14-5 in the fourth set.
Carmella D. Carnahan, age 80, of Oak Street, Johnsonburg, died at home Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 4, 1933 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Sisto and Elizabeth (Allegretto) Cicuzza.
She married Charles T. Carnahan in 1954, he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2008.
ST. MARYS â€“ Corporal Greg Agosti, a fire marshal with the Pennsylvania State Police reports investigating two different tractor-trailer fires occurring less than 24 hours apart in St. Marys.
KERSEY â€“ The 2014 Elk County Relay For Life will open their new season with a Fall Fest to be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. This event will be held at the Fox Township Park in Kersey.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Friday morning, area residents were invited to a tour of the J5 paper machine at Domtar in Johnsonburg. The tour was offered as part of Domtar Manufacturing Day, during which mill officials offer a closer look at their production process and history.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader football team had their homecoming game on Saturday afternoon at Dutch Country Stadium, losing 35-7 to the Kane Wolves to fall to 0-6 on the season.
"We had some things going there. We made some mistakes," said ECC head coach Tony Gerg. "I wish we could have had a better showing for homecoming."
The Wolves scored 14 in the first quarter and 21 in the second to lead 35-0 at halftime. The Crusaders' lone touchdown came midway through the fourth quarter.
