The Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce invites all to join them for the 55th Annual Membership Banquet on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Aiello's Cafe in Ridgway.
The fundraising committee of the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce held a meeting Monday night to fine tune preparations for the big event.
The focus of this year's autumn-themed dinner is to recognize the 16 new members to the Chamber.
"This year we are focusing on recognizing our members and to give a little extra recognition to our new members who have joined since 2011," said administrative assistant Mary Kucenski.
Robert D. McClain, 88, of the Lutheran Home at Kane Residential Care Center, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011Â at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1923 in Corsica, he was the son of Thomas E. and Mabel Richert McClain. On July 23, 1945 in Ridgway, he married Audrey Burton, who died in 2004.
Mr. McClain was a sheet metalist for Elliot Co. in Ridgway for over 20 years, and later for Waterbury Farrell in Cheshire, Conn.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Kane and had been a member of the BPO Elks #329, in Kane.

Ridgway girls soccer lost 1-0 to Brookville in the first round of the District 9 Class A girls soccer playoffs at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway Tuesday afternoon.
Brookville’s lone goal came around 10 minutes into the first half. Michelle Crissman made a long run through midfield as she got by the Ridgway defense with a deft first touch to her left which gave her space to operate. Crissman could not get much on her shot and it hit the post as a result. Brookville got the rebound and the Lady Raiders looped a shot in for what would be the game’s lone goal.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders fought back from a 2-1 match deficit and a match point in the final set for a 3-2 (25-11, 23-25, 24-26, 25-14, 16-14) victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
ECC won the first set but lost the next two to Ridgway, putting the Lady Elkers ahead entering the fourth set. The Lady Crusaders won the fourth set at 25-14 which set up the winner-take-all set.
JOHNSONBURG – After squandering a two-set lead, the playoff-bound Johnsonburg Ramettes (14-9-1) earned a five-set win (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9) Tuesday night over visiting Kane.
Taking the home court for the final time in the regular season, Johnsonburg's senior quintet needed five sets for the win after a furious rally from Kane to tie the match at two sets apiece.
After a tip at the net by Kane junior Audrey Perry to give the Lady Wolves a 5-2 lead in the third set, the home team came to life.
According to Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner, close to 200 tons of material have likely come through the Community Recycling Center over the course of the past year. Not only is the county's recycling program thriving, but the program's budget is also no longer in the dire straits it was a year ago.
"We are no longer bleeding red, which is incredible," Titchner said.
The owner of the pitbull found shot last week in the Lake City area said the dog was "family" to him and he shot it because it was attacking his fiancee and would not respond to his commands to stop.
Jeremiah Wickett, 35, of Lake City, said he had raised the dog, Ganja, a six-year-old half-pit bull, half-bull mastiff, from a puppy. He said he and his fiancee, Michelle Oertly, 34, also of Lake City, were standing on their front porch on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 18 engaged in a play "wrestling" match when the dog attacked Oertly, latching on to her left leg.
State Representative Matt Gabler (R-Elk/Clearfield) will be hosting a number of meetings intended to address concerns held by his constituency, specifically those pertaining to veterans' affairs and new transportation regulations for truck drivers.
Truck drivers' meeting
Watershed specialist Kim Bonfardine reported no abnormal findings for the Elk County Monitoring Project during Monday night's Elk County Conservation District meeting.
"I haven't found anything abnormal," Bonfardine said. "Each of the streams I have been looking at have different conductivity rates in them, but that's normal. I haven't discovered anything outrageous."
Dr. Bruce Dickson of AGES, Inc. [Applied Geology and Environmental Science] is assisting Bonfardine in the project.

COUDERSPORT – A late comeback fell short for Ridgway boys soccer as the Elkers lost 3-2 to the Coudersport Falcons in the first round of the District 9 Class A boys soccer playoffs Monday night at CARP Park.
“I don’t know why they have to wake up in the second half but they made it interesting,” Ridgway coach John Ogden said. “I told them beforehand that they had nothing to lose, so play hard. A sloppy first half and an exciting second half, they’re the cardiac kids. They just came up short.”
