The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority has made strides toward greater accountability for water loss within the township. Overall for the month of September, accountability is up to 87 percent. This amounts to a total of $2,527 paid to the borough for lost water. This is down from last month's loss which amounted to roughly $5,000.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, T-Bones Off Road Club will once again host its annual â€śRide Toward the Cureâ€ť to promote breast cancer awareness.
"This is a ride we do once a year to bring to the public an awareness on how to prevent breast cancer," according to Kellie Mocik. "Last year a donation was made to the Womenâ€™s Breast Care Services at DuBois Regional Medical Center. This year all proceeds from this ride will benefit them again."
Scott Gnan, a native of Johnsonburg who now resides in Penfield, recently caught a 13-foot, 6-inch alligator weighing over 800 pounds in Florida.
William A. "Birdseed" Myers, 59, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, formerly of 320 Mill St., Johnsonburg died on Tuesday evening, Oct. 1, 2013, at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 15, 1954 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Wallace "Wally" and Lorna Amory Myers.
He lived in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1973.
He was a member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, Johnsonburg Fire Department for 41 years, and Tri-County Firemen's Association, Central District.
Victoria A. "Vicky" Lewis, age 67, of Elbon Road, Brockport, died Oct. 2, 2013 at her residence.
She was born Aug. 1, 1946 in St. Marys, daughter of Alvin and Theresa Sheley Herzing.
On Oct. 31, 1964, she married Roy "Butch" Lewis, he survives.
She was a member at Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp.
Vicky was a member of the Horton Township/Brockway Lions Club where she served as treasurer. She was also a social member of the ABVA of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 720.
She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping and spending time with her family.
Nancy Lee Gess, age 64, of 807 North Broad St., Ridgway, died early Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at UPMC Hamot Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 10, 1949 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Jasper M. and Erma E. (Tobias) Vantassel. She married Veryl B. Gess on Sept. 17, 1966; he survives.
She had resided in Ridgway all of her life and was Protestant by faith. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed ceramics, camping and boating. She had been employed by the YMCA for several years and had also sold Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Helen F. "Honey" (Azzato) Allegretto, 81, of Redwood Street, Weedville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at Christ the King Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Weedville, daughter of the late John and Louise (Crocco) Azzato.
On July 4, 1953 she married Richard James Allegretto and he preceded her in death on June 28, 2010.
She lived most of her life in Weedville and was a graduate of Weedville High School, Class of 1950. She was a past employee of Stackpole Carbon and a homemaker.
After giving up the team's first goal in six matches, the Lady Elkers made sure to take control of Wednesdayâ€™s match from Port Allegany.

Will J. Duffield, age 37, of 307 Center St., Ridgway, died Monday morning in Jefferson County from injuries he received in an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 2, 1976 in Naperville, Ill., son of Rev. Craig W. and Jean E. (McEvers) Duffield. He resided in Ridgway for the last 13 years and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He graduated from Malta High School in Malta, Ill., and had attended Valparaiso University in Indiana and Covenant Bible College.
The Elk County Commissioners on Tuesday confirmed issues with the courthouse clock tower and approved additional repairs for exterior work on the building.
