Johnsonburg softball sweeps doubleheader with Bradford

Johnsonburg softball swept a doubleheader with Bradford Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The Ramettes won 14-7 in the first game and then took the nightcap 13-3.

Rams down Wolves on the diamond

KANE – The Kane Wolves hosted the Johnsonburg Rams for a baseball game at Pat Santilli Field on Thursday afternoon. The Rams jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings and held off a Kane comeback to post a 12-6 win.

Borough to start a junior councilman program

The Ridgway Borough Council and the Ridgway Area High School are working together to set up a junior councilman program that will allow an RHS student the opportunity to work with the Ridgway Borough Council.
The borough council discussed the program at its meeting earlier this month before unanimously approving the project to move forward.
Ridgway Borough Manager Kim Zimmerman said that through the junior councilman program, an RHS student will have the opportunity to sit with the council at their meetings, to join in council discussions and to do research like the other council members.

Borough employee retiring after 56 years

After working for 56 years at the Ridgway Borough water plant, Dick Herzog is retiring from Ridgway Borough.
To celebrate Herzog's retirement after 56 years working for the borough, a retirement party was held by the borough for Herzog at Aiello's Cafe in Ridgway.
Ridgway Borough Manager Kim Zimmerman gave a brief presentation at the party about Herzog's time working with the borough.
"It's a great day for us to honor someone like Mr. Herzog," Zimmerman said.

Plans finalized for Family Day at Sandy Beach

Plans have been finalized for the Family Day event held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sandy Beach Recreational Park in Ridgway Township.
Organizers met Tuesday night to to finalize plans according to June Johnson, vice chair and secretary for the Ridgway Township Recreation Board.
The event will feature a wide variety of educational demonstrations including items from the fish commission. Members of the Elk County Conservation District will perform water testing and show how fish survive in the water, according to Johnson.

Armory purchased by Ridgway corporation

According to a state official, the armory building in Ridgway was sold to a corporation that is located within the Ridgway Borough.
On Tuesday, Troy Thompson, the press secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, confirmed that a bid was accepted from Fotra, LLC for the armory, and on Wednesday, he confirmed that Fotra, LLC was a corporation located in Ridgway Borough.

Township officials discuss gas industry concerns

At the second of two informational sessions on the Marcellus Shale industry that were held at the Elk County Emergency Management Center in Ridgway, township officials were able to discuss their concerns with oil and gas industry representatives.

Fundraising for St. Marys recycling center continues

With usage rates continuing to increase at the recycling center in St. Marys, the Elk County Solid Waste Authority is continuing its campaign to build a new $2 million recycling center in St. Marys.

Skatepark to be removed by September

The Ridgway YMCA Board of Directors voted at Monday night's board meeting to accept the written letter that will terminate the lease with Ridgway Borough pertaining to the skatepark.

Ridgway Armory building sold

After unsuccessful sale attempts that asked for minimum bids of $110,000 and $88,000 respectively, the Pennsylvania Department of General Services received three bids for the armory building in Ridgway after a sale was started with a minimum bid of $5,000.
