During the month of November, the VFW Post 5887 in Ridgway has made over $50,000 in donations to countless area organizations. The club typically picks a few organizations to contribute to over a three month period, but found themselves with more funds than usual for the month and took the opportunity to go above and beyond for the Holiday season.

Sunday evening, area residents gathered at the gazebo along Main Street for a candle lighting ceremony in memory of children who have passed away. The ceremony began with a prayer from pastor Don Hunter, followed by the lighting of a large center candle in remembrance of those honored during the ceremony.

Louise M. Faulkner, 95, of 675 Montmorenci Rd., Ridgway, died Friday evening, Dec. 6, 2013 at the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility.
She was born July 13, 1918 in New York City, daughter of the late Pancrazio and Henrietta (Mott) Papale.
She had resided in New York City all of her life and in Ridgway for the last six years. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in New York City. Louise was a graduate of Hunters College. She has been employed by Bellview Hospital in New York City for 45 years as a nurse.
