Ardith Pauline (Trumbull) Johnson, 89, of Toby, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 in Greensburg where she had relocated to be closer to her son Doug following a debilitating illness.
Ardith was born May 26, 1925 in Brandy Camp, daughter of the late Donald and Elizabeth (Jefferson) Trumbull.

Ridgway Lady Elkers edged by Eisenhower

Ridgway girls basketball were at the brink of overcoming the Eisenhower Lady Knights.
A last-second shot to tie the game was wide of the mark as Eisenhower defeated Ridgway 42-39 Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School.

Lady Wolves run by Ramettes 41-18

The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team outscored the Johnsonburg Ramettes 27-1 over the second and third quarters of Wednesday night’s game in the Wolves’ Den on their way to a 41-18 win.
The Lady Wolves used a balanced scoring attack to get out to an early lead when Johnsonburg’s shooters went ice cold.

Multiple fire units respond to Taft Road fire

ST. MARYS - A structure fire broke out Wednesday morning shortly after 10:30 a.m. at 162 Taft Rd. in St. Marys. Multiple units from St. Marys and Johnsonburg responded to the fire. Preliminary reports list Fox Township and Ridgway on standby as well.

New year, old problem at county prison

Overcrowding issues at the Elk County Prison in Ridgway have continued into the new year.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the total number of individuals incarcerated at the correctional facility was 76 inmates.
"We're currently housing 12 females but there are 16 on the books as four are being housed out-of-county due to overcrowding," said Elk County Prison Warden Greg Gebauer. "Ten males also are housed out-of-county due to overcrowding and other circumstances, but we’re only paying for seven of those currently."

Budget work beginning at RASD

Amid questions presented by the public, the Ridgway Area School District school board defended its budget process and monetary allocations during Tuesday's school board meeting.
Julie Marzella, a resident concerned about potential increases in taxes from the school board, has attended several RASD school board meetings, questioning the board about money that she claims is incorrectly allocated to allow for the school board to raise taxes.

Judge King retires after 40 years

JOHNSONBURG – After 40 years in public service, Senior Magisterial District Judge George A. "Tony" King announced his retirement Tuesday which will end his 28-year stretch as magisterial district judge.
“I had made a decision some time ago that after 40 years of public service, it was time to move on," King said. "No health reasons or anything like that; it’s just time to make the decision."
King's decision to retire comes at a time that will allow his seat to be on the ballot for the upcoming Nov. 3 election.

Ridgway wrestling downs Cameron County for second time

After going 0-2 against Cameron County in head coach David Fordoski's first two years, the Elkers and Fordoski have paid the Red Raiders back in the past two weeks.
After a 50-20 win over Cameron County at the Coudersport Duals, the Elkers added a second win over the Red Raiders with a 52-20 win Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.

Ramettes return to form with 50-31 win over Brockway

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg sophomore Nicole Myers had the hot hand Tuesday night with 20 points as the Ramettes toppled visiting Brockway 50-31.
The home team took control of the game going into halftime with 19 points in the second quarter, and held on in the second half for the win.
