WEEDVILLE - The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) unveiled a new plan to trap and remove elk from Weedville at a raucous public meeting held Thursday night at the Bennetts Valley Senior Center.
Elizabeth P. Snelbaker, 86, of Wellsville, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Manor Care in York.
She was the wife of Donald E. Snelbaker. The couple observed their 56th wedding anniversary on Dec. 22.
Mrs. Snelbaker was a graduate of Pennsylvania State College. She was a registered dietician and was a certified elementary teacher, retired from the West Shore School District.
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority will upgrade their four-year-old control system.
Officials voted unanimously in favor of an updated offer from Emerson Process Management during Thursday night's regular meeting.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The old cliche says "defense wins championships."
For Johnsonburg boys basketball, defense also won Wednesday's game against Bradford.
The Rams held Bradford to four points in the last quarter and a half en route to a 46-30 victory over the Owls Wednesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.

ST. MARYS â€“ Officials for the American Cancer Society, Inc. [ACS] are hoping that the new year will also bring new volunteer drivers for the Road to Recovery program.
The initiative provides rides to patients who have no way to get to their cancer treatment at a medical facility. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars to get a patient to and from the facility that they need to travel to for treatment.
John T. "Jack" McGonigal Jr., 86, died Dec. 20, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 8, 1926 in Johnsonburg, son of the late John T. and Edith McAlee McGonigal.
He married Antoinette "Ann" Giffi on May 8, 1956, she survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all of his life and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1944. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Central Hose Co.

ST. MARYS â€“ Even though donations received in this year's Coaches vs. Cancer campaign at the Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament fell short of matching last year's total of $1,200, more than $800 was still able to be raised to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, according to Roben Daghir, volunteer survivor for outreach and awareness.
"It was wonderful," Daghir said of the community's continued support of promoting cancer awareness.
ST. MARYS â€“Â Ridgway ended 2011 with a win in the Elk County Holiday Tournament over Johnsonburg.
Johnsonburg returned the favor to end 2012.
The Rams scored the final 13 points in the fourth quarter to take a 36-23 win over Ridgway in the championship game of the tournament Saturday night at St. Marys Area High School.
It's Johnsonburg's second tournament title in four years, the Rams also won the county title in 2009.
"It feels good for the kids I'm sure," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "I feel very proud that I was able to be a part of this."
ST. MARYS â€“ The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team successfully defended their Elk County Girls' Holiday Basketball Tournament crown by defeating the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 44-27 score in the 2012 championship game played Saturday night at St. Marys Area High School.
The Lady Crusaders' defense was the key to the game as they limited the Ramettes to seven points in the second half of play.
"Holding Johnsonburg to seven points in the second half was definitely the key," said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner.
