Relay For Life is 30 years strong

KERSEY – Thirty years ago, Dr. Gordon Klatt took to the track for 24 hours in Tacoma, Wash. and raised $27,000 for the fight against cancer. Today, the Relay program is more than just a fundraiser.
It's about communities coming together to support each other and the work the American Cancer Society is doing to fight cancer. What started as one man's vision to support the Society's mission has evolved into the world's largest and most profound fundraising event to end cancer worldwide.

Penn Highlands Elk still a concern for council

ST. MARYS – Several members of St. Marys City Council on Monday expressed continuing concerns over the recent actions of the Penn Highlands healthcare system.
The council held a meeting last month with representatives from Penn Highlands Elk to address concerns in the city about the hospital and its recent layoffs.

Ridgway Area High School holds Class of 2015 graduation

Ridgway Area High School held its graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2015 Friday evening at Ira S. Nippes Auditorium.
A total of 64 comprised this year's graduating class from Ridgway.

JAHS class of 2015 graduates 40

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area High School held its annual graduation ceremony before a packed auditorium at the Johnsonburg Area High School on Friday night with 40 students making up the class of 2015.
Graduating seniors Kaylee DeCecchis and Alexa Marciniak were this year's valedictorian and salutatorian respectively, and they were joined by guest speaker Brent Dunworth as the three speakers at this year's ceremony.

After 21 years as chief, Parana is officially retired

JOHNSONBURG – After serving for 21 years as Johnsonburg Borough Police Department Chief of Police, Bryan Parana officially retired on Friday, ending over 30 years of service to Johnsonburg’s police force.
Parana sat down for an interview with The Ridgway Record on Friday, his last day as chief of police in the borough, to discuss his career and his plans now that he will no longer be serving as chief of police.

State legislators discuss budget issues at AHUG dinner

KERSEY – The Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group (AHUG) held its annual dinner Thursday which featured a legislative panel discussion with some of the area's various state legislators.
The panel discussion featured a question-and-answer section that focused strongly on the upcoming state budget and how it will impact the timber industry.
The first question that was asked of the legislators was a request to know where the state's budget process currently sits.
