Supervisors show disagreement on ordinance

The Ridgway Township Supervisors expressed disagreement during Tuesday's monthly supervisors meeting over the progress that is being made towards the enactment of a new zoning ordinance throughout the township.
Ridgway Township supervisors are discussing the creation and implementation of a zoning ordinance related to the oil and gas industry, and disagreements occurred about whether or not the supervisors were acting quickly enough to avoid being sued by residents.

Unemployment figures favor Elk County

Figures released recently show Elk County's unemployment rate lower than any of its counterparts within the North Central region.
Figures accumulated from August 2013 through August 2014 show Elk County with an average of 5.57 percent. The state average for the same time period totals 6.48 percent while the national average is 6.6 percent.

Dunshie waived for county court

The driver in a December 2013 crash on Zwack's dip of the Million Dollar Highway was waived for court Tuesday.
James Michael Dunshie, 27, of Force, initially faced two felony charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI. One of the charges was withdrawn. One remains as one of his passengers is still recovering in a care facility.

Lady Crusaders sweep Lady Elkers on Senior Night

ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic volleyball remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 win (25-9, 25-10, 25-17) victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at Elk County Catholic High School.
Elk County Catholic coach Diane Gies said she was pleased with the effort after the ECC Tournament on Saturday.

Ramettes defeat Lady Wolves in 4 sets in Wolves’ Den

The Johnsonburg Ramettes won a match between two struggling teams on Tuesday night in the Wolves’ Den. Coach Bill Shuey’s Ramettes won their third match of the season 3-1, (25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-15) to spoil Kane’s Senior Recognition.

Lady Crusaders edge Clarion 3-2 in D9 quarterfinals

CLARION – The fifth-seeded Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders battled through wet and muddy conditions on Tuesday night at the Clarion Area High School to rally for a 3-2 victory over the fourth-seeded Clarion Lady Bobcats in the District 9 Class A quarterfinals.

Ridgway girls soccer advances to quarterfinals, 2-1

It was a slow start and a nervous finish for Ridgway girls soccer.
Thankfully for the Lady Elkers, it was a happy ending and a chance to play another day.
Two Julie Alford goals were enough to propel Ridgway to a 2-1 win over Redbank Valley in the first round of the District 9 Class A girls soccer playoffs held at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.

Residents: East Ave. unsafe for kids

Several residents and parents from East Avenue showed up Monday at the Ridgway Borough Council meeting to express displeasure over the high speeds that vehicles can be seen driving at on the road.
This is the second straight meeting that residents from the street have attended to plead to the council to place stop signs on East Avenue to help prevent the onslaught of vehicles that drive fast enough to endanger their kids' lives.
