JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg Police Chief Bryan Parana reported on the recent arrest of a Ridgway man charged with robbing a Johnsonburg bank during a council meeting held Monday afternoon.
ST. MARYS â€“ The number of Confirmation candidates assisting with this year's Valentine's Day Ball at Pinecrest Manor may have been down, but the turnout from Pinecrest residents was very high as it was "a packed house" of "over 100 residents" for the annual event, according to Confirmation Facilitator Kathy Reuscher.
James F. Eggler, 68, of 184 Elm St., Stonington, Conn., and formerly of Johnsonburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn.
He was born Feb. 2, 1945 in Ridgway, son of Dorothy Young Eggler and the late James M. Eggler.
He resided in Stonington for the past several years.
Elizabeth Jane â€śBettyâ€ť Mitchell Ford, 77, of Youngstown, Ohio, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013 with her loving family by her side.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1936 in Ridgway, the daughter of the Daniel and Mabel (Schmiedel) Mitchell, and moved to the Youngstown area in 1956.
Betty was a 12-year cancer survivor. She was a member of St. Matthias Church, the 7th Ward Citizens Coalition and the Cochran Park Neighbors. She was a dog groomer, a member of the Kroger Price Patrol and enjoyed hauling with her husband.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ It took less than a quarter for Johnsonburg boys basketball to shake off its second loss of the season.
The Rams had a 15-point lead at the end of the first quarter and built the lead further as the game went on in a 68-29 victory over Brockway Friday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
The Rams had a 20-2 lead after six minutes of play.
"We got a quick start, got some easy baskets," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "The kids were feeling it. I don't know what we shot percentage-wise but I think it was pretty good."
JAMES CITY â€“ A Kane man was killed Friday morning when an empty coal truck struck his passenger car at the intersection of Route 66 and the entrance to James City.
The Ridgway Area School District will vote on a preliminary budget during their regular board of directors meeting Tuesday night in the library of the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority approved the payment of bills during their regular meeting Thursday night which included a payment for the upgrade to their control system.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Kane wrestling won 45-21 in a dual meet at Johnsonburg Area High School Thursday night.
Seth Woolcock won the opening bout by forfeit at 113 pounds for the Wolves for a 6-0 lead. Cody Blankenship then had little trouble in the 120-pound match as he pinned Devin Mann of Johnsonburg in a time of 1:45 which upped the Kane lead to 12-0.
Jon Gelsick scored Kane's third bout in a row as he pinned Johnny Ferragine in a time of 1:05 in the 126-pound weight class.
Members of the Elk Counties Local Housing Options Team [LHOT] met Wednesday afternoon at The Edgewood Hall in St. Marys to finalize preparations for the third annual housing expo set for today from noon to 5 p.m. at The Edgewood Hall in St. Marys.
