ST. MARYS â€“ Work to improve a northern section of Route 255 in the City of Saint Marys began late last month. The project stretches from the Tractor Supply intersection to Route 120/State Street in Saint Marys. Work this year will concentrate on the section between Wendyâ€™s Burgers and Satterlee Fueling.
ERIE â€“ A St. Marys man charged with siphoning off a half-million dollars from a local animal shelter and rescue as well as clients of his own financial service companies, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering Thursday in an Erie federal court.
State Representative Matt Gabler met with local human service agencies Thursday morning to hold a discussion concerning Governor Tom Corbett's budget proposal and county block grant program.
OHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg starting pitcher Cole Peterson overcame two sloppy early innings Thursday before throwing fireballs past DuBois Central Catholic batters Thursday in a 2-1 win.
Peterson struck out 12 batters in a 5-hit complete game win, at one time retiring nine batters in a row en route to the victory.
Ridgway softball lost 5-0 to a Curwensville on a windy Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Consistent winds of 15-20 mph were blowing out throughout the game and the Lady Tide were able to take advantage of the wind blowing out in the first inning. Sarah Wriglesworth led off the game by reaching on a Ridgway defensive miscue. Taylor Goodman followed with a bloop single to left. After a Curwensville flyout, cleanup hitter Tiffany Carter launched a 3-run home run to center field which gave the Lady Tide a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
The Ridgway YMCA will once again hold Healthy Kids Day this Friday, April 19 at the popular North Broad Street facility in Ridgway.
ST. MARYS â€“ Elk County Catholic High School students are bringing the colorful and unique world of Dr. Seuss to life in 'Seussical,' as part of the school's annual musical production. Curtains open this evening at 7 p.m. with additional showtimes set for Friday and Saturday evening and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Municipal Authority okayed the payment of a fine to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] for the failure to submit requested documents in accordance with a compliance schedule as part of a consent order and agreement during a regular meeting Tuesday night.
An agent with the Pa. Attorney General's Office spoke to area residents Tuesday about the dangers associated with three new synthetic forms of traditional drugs including marijuana, amphetamine and heroin.
