July 11 will mark the one-year anniversary of a fiery car crash along state road 255 in Byrnedale that claimed the life of 23-year-old Savannah Straub, of St. Marys, and saw the alleged driver of the vehicle charged with her death.
KANE â€“ The preliminary hearing for a Cyclone man, charged with accidentally shooting a friend during a demonstration of "how to properly handle a handgun," was continued in a McKean County District Court Monday.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg softball lost 12-1 in five innings to Curwensville Monday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Tide would take control of the game with a 7-run second inning. Abby Johnson led off the game with a single. Alaina Stiles, Nikki Harker and Tierra Shope all walked, Shope's walked came with the bases loaded to score Johnson for a 1-0 lead.
After completing her first Boston Marathon, St. Marys resident Molly Quesenberry had a strong feeling that she wanted to see her family as soon as possible.
The Ridgway YMCA celebrated Healthy Kids day on Friday at the North Broad Street facility.
"The Ridgway YMCA had a great turnout for their annual Healthy Kids Day," said Mary Lynne Bellotti, executive director of the Ridgway YMCA. "It is so nice to see so many families spending time together at our facility.Â The kids had so much fun-- face-painting, gymnastics, demonstrations, pool fun, crafts, healthy snacks-- and it was all free for everyone that came into the Y."
The man charged in the disappearance of a 13-year-old Clarion girl, safely returned after police in South Dakota stopped a car carrying the two, was arraigned in a Rapid City courtroom last week on charges that he drove the teen across state lines "for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sexual activity" with her.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg High School basketball coach William Shuey was recently recognized during a council meeting for his role in leading the Rams to the PIAA Class A Championship. "The kids really enjoyed how the community rallied around them," Shuey said. "I know they were feeling kind of bad coming back from Hershey but when we showed up in town their spirits were lifted." James Earl Bennett, 78, of Ridgway, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
He was born August 7, 1934 in Punxsutawney, a son of the late James Robert and Ella Grace (McQuown) Bennett.
On June 15, 1957 he married the former Diane Dunmire, and she survives.
Mr. Bennett worked at Airco Carbon in St. Marys and Punxsutawney. He served in the United States Army after the Korean Conflict. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping.
