Area individuals, business named Champions of the PA Wilds

KERSEY – A record crowd was on hand during the annual Pennsylvania Wilds Spring Briefing event held at the Red Fern in Kersey, during which time 13 local organizations and individuals were honored for their outstanding work in conservation and sustainable tourism development.

Irene A. O'Rourke, 86, of 804 Rasselas Road, Wilcox, died on the morning of January 20, 2013, at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 6, 1926 in Wilcox, daughter of the late Edward and Alice Retzer Powell.
On June 14, 1945 in St. Ann's Church in Wilcox she married Calvin S. O'Rourke, and he survives.
She resided in Wilcox all her life and graduated from Wilcox High School in 1944. She was a member of St. Ann's Church, Wilcox. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Along with her husband, they are the owners of the "Ponderosa" in Wilcox.

Elizabeth Ann Seaman

Elizabeth Ann Seaman, 74, of Ridgway, formerly of Vinco, died April 29, 2013, in St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 4, 1939, in Owls Nest, daughter of Roy M. and Edna (Wickert) Neely. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Robert Dell Seaman, on Dec. 28, 2011; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by sons Jimmy (Diane) Seaman, Liverpool, Pa., and Jeffrey Seaman, Vinco; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Johnsonburg man takes plea bargain in rape case

A Johnsonburg man charged with sexually assaulting a female neighbor on two separate occasions, within days of each other, accepted a plea bargain in Elk County Court that saw felony charges of rape, sexual assault, burglary, and aggravated indecent assault dropped in exchange for his pleading guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor indecent assault.

Parents charged with kidnapping child waive hearings

ST. MARYS – A Kersey couple charged with taking their own 11-month-old child from a relative's custody waived hearings in District Court Tuesday on charges stemming from the April 22 incident in which the two allegedly burglarized the legal guardian's home and snatched the child before leading cops on a chase that ended in downtown St. Marys.

Deer poachers sentenced in Elk County Court Monday

Three St. Marys residents charged with killing four whitetail deer outside of hunting season and processing the animals in a St. Marys garage, pled guilty in Elk County Court Monday to various counts of unlawful killing of big game.

Educational sign to be unveiled at Ridgway Reservoir

Through the efforts of multiple groups throughout the area, education signage will be unveiled to the public at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Ridgway Reservoir as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The public is encouraged to attend the event.

Authority takes ownership of waterline

Officials of the Ridgway Township Municipal Authority voted in favor of accepting ownership of a waterline within the township, pending approval from a third party, during a regular meeting Thursday night.

Ridgway baseball loses to DCC

It was a day for the hitters at Sandy Beach Recreational Park Monday as DuBois Central Catholic baseball was able to defeat Ridgway 13-10.
DCC finished with 13 hits while Ridgway tallied 12.

Fire damages Johnsonburg home

JOHNSONBURG – Late Monday morning, Michelle Bowley reported that her mother, Carla Geer, and 4-year old granddaughter, Braelynn Bowley, were sitting outside Carla'a house at 502 2nd Street when little Braelynn told Carla "Grandma, you've got smoke coming out of your house."
