Ruth Marie Anstrom

July 29, 2013

Ruth Marie Anstrom, 89, of Ridgway, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, after a prolonged illness. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Rustic Manor Personal Care Home in Indiana, Pa.
Ruth was born July 8, 1924 in Toby, daughter of the late Ester Christine (Hedlund) and John Alfred Freeburg.
Ruth graduated as valedictorian of her class at Kersey High School in 1942. She married Carl Richard Anstrom on June 5, 1948.
Ruth was employed as a secretary at the Elliot Company, Pontzer and Pontzer law firm and finished her career as secretary of First Lutheran Church, retiring at age 71.

None injured in truck wreck in Highland Township

RUSSELL CITY – No one was injured early Saturday morning when a tractor-trailer truck left Route 948 near Russell City and rolled on its side.

Fire at storage buildings in Ridgway

At about 6 p.m. Friday, the Ridgway Fire Department was called to a borough storage building fire on State Street at the second access point to the Clarion-Little Toby Rails to Trails. The main building involved reportedly contained plastic road cones and other equipment while a second contained the calcium material used in winter deicing. A smaller shed in back of these was also destroyed.

Elk County Boulder Dash upcoming

A 20-mile run, walk and hike event sound like fun to you?
If so, the Elk County Boulder Dash event held Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 a.m. in Ridgway just might be your thing.
The event takes place on 20 miles of State Games Lands 44, just south of Ridgway, featuring about 4,000 feet of vertical rise over the course. The deadline to register online at www.elkcountyboulderdash.com is Thursday, Aug. 1.

Nellie Mae Stump

Nellie Mae Stump, age 84, of Myrtle Street, Johnsonburg, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at her daughter's home in Leeper after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 22, 1929 in Big Run, daughter of the late Irvin and Ruth (Wachob) Henry.
She was married to Robert Stump, who survives. The couple would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Aug. 16.

No cause reported following investigation

JOHNSONBURG – Law enforcement authorities completed an investigation Thursday but were unable to explain the cause of the July 12 fire at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg, saying only that there are "no suspicious circumstances."
