David Carlyle Kirkland, age 81, of 12219 Shanley Hill, Hallton, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 18, 1932, at the Shanley Homestead, Shanley Hill, Hallton, Pennsylvania, one of three children to Virginia Shanley and Claude Kirkland.
David married his beloved Frances J. Henry on Nov. 23, 1957, and they had been married for 56 years.
Ridgway's first home game at Memorial Field in Ridgway turned out to be a successful one for the Elkers as Ridgway won 28-8 over Elk County Catholic Friday in the AML South Division opener for both teams.
Ridgway ran for 331 yards in the win with Cole Myers and Sam Delhunty both going over 100 yards rushing.
Michael Anthony Quattrone, age 54, of 243 West Main St., Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, 2013 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 12, 1958 in Ridgway, son of Frank (Chick) and Josephine Quattrone Jr.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, a member of Boy Scout Troop 93 and served as an EMT with the Ridgway Ambulance. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He had been employed by Metaldyne for 15 years.
Mary Lou Eckert, age 85, a resident of Baton Rouge, La. died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Baton Rouge.
Lou was a loving and dedicated mother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Jean M. Parmigiani, 74, formerly of 122 Center St. St. Marys died early Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home. She was born April 15, 1939 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Joseph and Angela (Agosti) Parmigiani. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Kersey. She had been employed by Stackpole Carbon for 28 years.

In recognition of National Child Passenger Safety Week, members of the Pennsylvania State Police were on hand at the PennDOT building in Ridgway to conduct free safety seat checks for the public on Thursday afternoon. Checks like this are offered three to four times a year at locations throughout Elk and neighboring counties.
LeRoy J. Neubert, 70, of 86 Worral St., Wilcox, died on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1942 in Benzinger, son of the late LeRoy E. and Anne Danko Neubert.
He married Doris Stewart on May 3, 1973 in St. Callistus Church in Kane, who survives.
Leroy resided in Wilcox all his life. He was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School in 1960.
Clyde "Champ" Holman, Deputy Secretary for Community Affairs and Development for the state's Department and Community and Economic Development, visited Ridgway Tuesday as part of the DCED on the Road program.
Holman, along with others from the Department of Community and Economic Development, visited the Welcome Center in downtown Ridgway. Area residents, along with State Representative Matt Gabler and members of Boy Scout Troop 93 were all in attendance to welcome the DCED officials.
Elk County commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve emergency repair work to the tower portion of the Elk County Courthouse.
