The third man charged in the January 2011 knifepoint robbery of an elderly Johnsonburg man was in Elk County Court Monday where he pleaded guilty to his role in the home-invasion style attack.
Helen M. Powell, 90, of 221 Cook Ave., Ridgway, died Monday morning, April 1, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1922 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Maurice and Mary [Kielocker] MacDonald. She married Roland A. Powell on May 18, 1946, he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2009. She had resided in Ridgway since 2005 and was a former Silver Spring, Md. resident.
Sheri R. Greak, 66, of 815 Middletown Rd., Lake City, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility, after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 6, 1946, in McKeesport, the daughter of Arthur B. and Ethel R. Snyder. She married Leonard G. Greak (PSP), he predeceased her on April 29, 2003. She graduated from Holy Ghost Academy, Mercy Hospital (Pittsburgh) and Hananaham (Philadelphia) with a degree in Nursing.

ST. MARYS – When the Frank and Paladino siblings decided to hold a 5k walk/run on the day before Easter three years ago, they simply wanted to honor the memories of their mothers, who had both died from brain aneurysms, and raise funds for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation. They did not realize at the time that they were also starting an event that would become a tradition for a number of area residents.
ST. MARYS - In a recent town hall meeting dealing with drug use and local youth, a survey of area adolescents and teens showed many believe this area holds lax views on drugs and alcohol use.
David L. Mahoney, 46, of 41 West Cardott St., Ridgway, died Saturday morning at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 9, 1966 in Ridgway, son of J. Leo and Betty A. (Pavlock) Mahoney.
He married Wendy S. Gardner on August 21, 1993, and she survives.
He had resided in Ridgway for the last 20 years and was a former Johnsonburg resident. He was a member of the Hallton Church. He was a 1986 graduate of the Johnsonburg High School. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, the Steelers, and vacations to the Outer Banks.
