The Elk County Conservation District is still continuing its efforts to complete the West Creek Wetlands project.
An impressive run by members of the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader cross country team gave the squad the edge over North Clarion on Saturday in Ridgway as ECC used a 1-point advantage to claim the girls' District 9 Class A team title.
A statue and cross are now firmly in place on the side of St. Leo Magnus Roman Catholic Church as part of the restoration project undertaken a few years ago.
Ridgway football still has a shot at the District 9 playoffs.
Ridgway kept their playoff hopes alive with an 8-0 win over Smethport Friday night to move to 4-5 on the season on Senior Night.
"We have another shot next week and again, we control our own destiny," Heindl said. "This week, the kids came to practice hard, focused. We fixed a lot of things. It wasn't pretty in the first half offensively but the second half, to take nine minutes off the clock on that first drive and seal the deal, what a great job by our team."

Joseph E. Miller Jr., of 101 N. Mill St., Ridgway, formerly of Port Allegany, died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Thursday evening, Oct. 24, 2013.
He was born Dec. 28, 1941 in Troupsburg, N.Y., a son of the late Joseph and Clarinda Hammond Miller.
Mr. Miller worked as a certified welder for air preheater in Wellsville, N.Y. for many years. Joe resided in Ridgway for the past six years. He was a member of the Ridgway Fire Department, enjoyed hunting, fishing, snake hunting and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
ST. MARYS â€“ The Elk County Catholic High School Crusader Marching Band had spectators singing along in the stands as the performed an array of musical selections from the popular British rock band, the Beatles.
WEEDVILLE â€“ A fire broke out late Wednesday night at 1197 River Rd. [state Route 555] in Jay Township and destroyed a single story residence.
Traffic accidents involving elk pose a real danger to area residents. Although many think of the elk as an elusive animal, they frequent the roadways, particularly in autumn which is their breeding season.
On Nov. 2, past employees of the Elk County General Hospital are invited to attend a reunion at the Udarbe Complex in Ridgway. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and the dinner will be BYOB.
