Representatives from the offices of state senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and state representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) were on hand Friday to pay tribute to Metaldyne employees for reaching 600 consecutive safety days at the facility atop Boot Jack Hill in Ridgway.

Phyllis (Ma) Gardner, 78, of 5239 Montmorenci Rd., Ridgway, went to be with the Lord Sept. 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
She was born May 16, 1935 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Lola Luchs.
She married Ronald (Ug) Gardner on Oct. 15, 1950, he preceded her in death on May 16, 1987.
George S. Cherry, 91, of 1826 Bendigo Rd., Johnsonburg, died the morning of Sept. 10, 2013 following a short illness at Scottish Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Laurinburg, N.C.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1921 in Johnsonburg, the son of the late John and Anna Dellaquila Cherry.
He married Mary Chupa on Jan. 12, 1946 in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg. She died March 26, 2012.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg Area School District superintendent Dennis Crotzer announced that the district has received a Small Rural School Achievement Award totaling $27,975 during a Thursday night school board meeting.
