ERIE — A federal judge says a man who pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $422,000 from a northwestern Pennsylvania animal shelter and one of his private clients can be released from jail — but will be confined to his North Carolina home — until he's sentenced Oct. 8.

Emanuela Costanzo

Emanuela Costanzo, 89, of 314 First Avenue, Johnsonburg, died at her residence on Tuesday evening, Aug. 13, 2013, following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 23, 1924 in Platania, Italy, daughter of the late Carlo and Giovana Perri.
On Feb. 27, 1947 she married Michele Costanzo, and he survives.
Formerly of Italy, she resided in Johnsonburg since 1953.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and she loved baking and gardening. She was employed by Caldwell Decorators in Ridgway for several years. She had also worked as a seamstress for most of her life.

Finance Manager Rhoads announces retirement

The Ridgway Area School Board accepted the retirement of Finance Manager Brent Rhoads in 2014 at the board's monthly school board meeting held Tuesday night in the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The retirement is effective on July 11, 2014.

Elk Expo to be held Aug. 17-18

BENEZETTE – After a hiatus of several years the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Elk Expo will be making a return this weekend in time for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the reintroduction of elk in Pennsylvania. The expo will be held at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18.

Michael J. Kennedy, 19, of 641 East Center St., Johnsonburg, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2013 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Kane.
Born Aug. 21, 1993 in Kronach, Germany, he was the son of Joseph C. and Tanja L. Kirch Kennedy.
A 2012 graduate of Johnsonburg High School, he was employed by Kane Manufacturing. Michael belonged to Tabor Lutheran Church in Kane, the Grey Knights Drum & Bugle Corps in Johnsonburg, and had been a member of the Ruffed Grouse Society.

Carl W. Cook

Carl W. Cook, 80, of 1102 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Friday morning, Aug. 9, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born July 7, 1933 in Hazel Hurst, son of the late Carl R. and Lillian Dippo Cook.
He married Beverly Marlene Johnson on Nov. 20, 1954 in the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, and she survives.
Formerly of James City, he resided in Wilcox since 1958. He graduated from Kane High School and was a member of the Wilcox Presbyterian Church and Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.

Justine Marie Bowser, 35, of Johnsonburg, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 as the result of an auto accident.
She was born July 23, 1978 in St. Marys, daughter of Robert W. Bowser Sr. and his wife Clara of St. Marys, and Antoinette "Toni" (Hasselman) Jordan and her husband Willis of Johnsonburg.

Lana Jane (Pearce) Schubert

Lana Jane (Pearce) Schubert, 61, of Baudette, Minn., passed away from lung cancer on Aug. 6, 2013.
She was born in Boonton, N.J. on Feb. 3, 1952 to the late Lewis Sr. and Marjorie Pearce.
Lana was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Schubert (2003); both brothers, Larry and Lewis Jr.,; and a daughter, Emma (at birth).
