March 26th
JOHNSONBURG – A Johnsonburg man has been charged with first degree murder and related offenses in the death of a young woman whose body was found by police Tuesday morning at an undisclosed site in Ridgway Township.
The Elk County Commissioners on Tuesday morning approved a subcontract stemming from the state Department of Health and the Elk County Sheriff's Department for the purpose of monitoring the control of the tobacco products in Elk and McKean counties.
Melanie Angel, 40, of PIttsburgh, formerly of Warren, died Monday, March 25, 2013 following a brief illness.
Nick Martin, 22, was charged Tuesday night with criminal homicide and related charges in the death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth, according to authorities at a 6:30 p.m. press conference. He is incarcerated in Elk County Prison and not eligible for bail.
Unconfirmed reports on Tuesday indicated that a body was found at Sandy Beach Recreational Park in Ridgway Township. Later, multiple State Police vehicles were witnessed at the corner of First and Spruce Streets in Johnsonburg. A press conference is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight in Johnsonburg at the municipal offices.

The Elk County Conservation District is one step closer in their plans to improve the West Creek Wetland Trail located in St. Marys.
No one was injured late Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Route 6 at Burning Well Road, about four miles east of Kane in Wetmore Township.

Questions surrounding the potential of adverse environmental impact of injection wells used in the disposal of wastewater produced in the natural gas drilling process were addressed in a presentation from Karen Johnson, chief of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Underground Injection Control Program's Ground Water and Enforcement Branch at a recent meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force.

HERSHEY – Johnsonburg boys basketball's season did not end as sweet as the Rams would have hoped for.
But in the end, Johnsonburg made the District 12 champion Vaux Cougars work to earn their gold medals.
Vaux defeated Johnsonburg 83-63 in the PIAA Class A boys basketball championship game Friday afternoon at Giant Center.
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams (30-3) set a slew of school records during the 2012-2013 boys basketball season en route to Friday's runner-up finish in Hershey against Class A state champion Vaux.
