Ramettes advance to PIAA playoffs

The Johnsonburg Ramettes gave up an early lead, but then used a strong second half to defeat the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 39-32 in a District 9 Class A quarterfinal playoff game on Thursday evening at Elk County Catholic High School. The win guaranteed the Ramettes a spot in the PIAA Class A state playoffs and eliminated the Lady Crusaders.

Military tribute carving serves many purposes

ST. MARYS – A St. Marys man has been charged with more than 300 counts of child pornography and related offenses after he allegedly shared illicit computer files online with members of the Pennsylvania State Police Computer Crimes Unit.

William E. "Bill" Edgar

William E. "Bill" Edgar, 75, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the home of his son, Bill, in Corry. He had been in ill health for the past year.
Bill was born in Port Allegany on May 23, 1937, a son of Gordon and Signe Erickson Edgar, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Smethport High School where he played football. He worked for the Market Basket in both Smethport and Ridgway, where he spent most of his life. After 15 years with Market Basket, Bill retired from Keystone Carbon following 30 years of employment there.

Rendezvous continues with seminars

The 14th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous continues Thursday with a seminar at 9 a.m. at the American Legion featuring Ken Tynan; Tynan will give a presentation regarding the realism and whimsical in nature followed by a carving demonstration.
Randy Boni will follow with a chainsaw carving demonstration. The seminars will be set to conclude at noon and carvers will be at all locations carving until 5 p.m.

Elk County native starring in Pittsburgh production of 'Children of Eden'

Ridgway native and Elk County Catholic High School graduate Logan Williams will return to Biblical times as one of the stars in an upcoming production of "Children of Eden" at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh this March.

Gilbert F. “Gib” Yeager

Gilbert F. “Gib” Yeager, 86, of 155 Russ Lane, St. Marys, died peacefully at his home with his family by side Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2013 after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 13, 1927 in St. Marys, son of the late George and Marcella Schatz Yeager. On Sept. 20, 1952 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Frances “Pam” A. Pontzer, who survives.
Mr. Yeager was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Public High School. He was one of the original co-owners of Kersey Tool and Die, retiring in 1994.

Armine H. Piccirillo

Armine H. Piccirillo, 93, formerly of 4257 Grant Rd., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 19, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born May 14, 1919 in Shawmut, daughter of the late Eva Jenkins. She was married to Joseph N. Piccirillo who preceded her in death. She had resided in Ridgway all of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and the C.D. of A. She had been employed by Sylvania for 30 years.
