In the first meeting between Elk County Catholic and Ridgway, the Crusaders didn't make a single 3-pointer.
That was far from the case Friday night.
The Crusaders made eight 3-pointers and advanced to the AML championship game with a 61-46 victory over Ridgway at Ridgway Area High School.
"I think just as important as it is for your offense, it's just that important for defense," Elk County Catholic coach Aaron Straub said. "When you make shots, you get a little more bounce in your step defensively, you get a little bit quicker, you get a little bit more energized."
A Johnsonburg man charged with operating a methamphetamine lab out of his residence was sentenced in Elk County Court to five to 10 years in state prison.

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams (21-2) had no trouble Friday as they cruised to a 66-22 win over Brockway (14-7). With the win, the Rams will play tonight at 7:30 p.m. at St. Marys Area High School against Elk County Catholic (18-5) for the Allegheny Mountain League [AML] crown.
The Rams were led by juniors Cole Peterson and Cameron Grumley, scoring 21 and 19 points, respectively, which was more than enough to topple Brockway.
JOHNSONBURG – Sixth grade students at the Johnsonburg Area Elementary School have completed painting a mural in the Ben Carson Reading Room to coincide with Dr. Carson's "THINK BIG" philosophy.
Frank J. Milliard, Jr., 80, of 2488 Water Street Extension, Johnsonburg, died Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1932 in Onondega, N.Y., son of the late Frank J. and Angeline Asti Milliard.
He married Joan Colosimo in 1957, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1988.
He resided in Johnsonburg since 1975 and had also lived in Riverside, Calif.
Jerome J. Cavalline, 71, of 324 Ash St., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born March 19, 1941 in Coal Hollow, son of the late Louis P. and Marie Malone Cavalline. On Sept. 26, 1986, in the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Wilcox, he married Julie A. Johnson, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1959. He was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Co., Speer Carbon, Elk Regional Health Center, and was also a former bus driver.
