Ronald E. Dixon, 60, of Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Oct. 21.
He was born Sept. 20, 1953, the son of Eugene and Virginia Dixon. He was married to JoAnne Dixon on Sept. 1, 1984.

Linda L. Murphy, 65, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Key West and Philadelphia, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 in Cape Coral.
She was born Oct. 16, 1947 in Oil City to James and Jeanne Clifford.

Margie Rose "Babe" Cherry

Margie Rose "Babe" Cherry, age 83, of 5000 Whitehaven Court, Richmond, Va., formerly of Northridge, Calif., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 at Autumn Care, Hanover, Va. following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 2, 1930 in Kane, the daughter of Gustav and Elsie Shaffer Johnson.
She was married to Victor "Vito" Cherry on Jan. 13, 1948 in Johnsonburg. He died Dec. 21, 2000.
She had resided in Virginia since 2009, and formerly lived in California. She graduated from Kane High School in 1947.

Gary W. Brown

Gary W. Brown, 73, of 5847 Beechwood Rd., Emporium, died at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys on Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2013.
He was born Jan. 25, 1940 in Ridgway, a son of the late Guy A. "Bill" and Lois Gibbs Brown.
On Nov. 30, 1957 in Brookville, he married Judith Pendleton Brown, who survives.

Crash knocks out power

Just around 11 p.m. Saturday night a Toyota Tacoma truck heading west on South Street/state Route 949 when he failed to make the turn by the Ridgway borough property heading out of Ridgway. The truck hit a utility pole cutting the pole in two leaving the upper portion hanging by several wires and cutting off electricity to a south section of Ridgway.

Ridgway YMCA continues to move forward with capital campaign

The Ridgway YMCA continues to move forward with the "Shape Our Future" capital campaign.
According to Mary Lynne Bellotti, executive director of the Ridgway YMCA, the initiative is still moving forward but "a little slower than anticipated."
"We are still moving forward," she said. "The Y has been in important part of the community of Ridgway for over 100 years. I often wonder what would Ridgway be like without it?"

Gloria J. Copella

Gloria J. Copella, 63, of 332 Brandy Camp Circle, Ridgway, died on Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born March 15, 1950 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Gerald Jerome and Mary Elizabeth Kline Copella. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1968. She was an employee of the St. Marys Carbon Company.
She is survived by her brother, Laverne Copella of Brandy Camp, and her nephew, Gerald Richard Copella of St. Marys.
There will be no visitation.

Elizabeth Ann Brostek

Elizabeth Ann Brostek died at home in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at the age of 93.
A longtime resident of Tucson, Ariz., she was born in Crenshaw on Sept. 19, 1920 to Angelina Ronca and Arthur Busatto, and grew up in Ridgway where she attended St. Leo's High School, graduating in 1938.
As all good mothers do, she worked hard raising her children.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Cheryl and Leslie, and is survived by her son Gary. 
She is to be interred at Holy Hope Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz.
