BROCKWAY â€“Â The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday evening in a tough match against Brockway in the D9 quarterfinals played under the lights at Frank Varischetti Field.
ECC was the fifth seed in the playoffs while Brockway was seeded fourth. Both teams had to deal with the cold and occasional rain and snow on Wednesday night but the Rovers proved to be too much for Elk to overcome.
Chester C. Kasmierski, 69, of Ridgway died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at Elk Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 19, 1944 in Johnsonburg, the son of Charles and Theresa Zawacki Kasmierski. He married Carol O. Bjorkquist. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 1999. Mr. Kasmierski had been employed at Ridgway Color for over 30 years and later at PASI. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
The recent 16-day federal government shutdown had little effect on the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission as officials for the reimbursement-based organization were prepared for the duration.
Kim Zimmerman, a Ridgway native, began his position as new Ridgway borough manager on Oct. 15.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Eighty minutes of girls soccer didn't result in a single goal for either team.
Less than one minute of overtime produced Ridgway's game-winner.
Caitlin Viglione scored for the Lady Elkers in Brookville's penalty area to give Ridgway a 1-0 overtime victory over the Lady Raiders in the District 9 quarterfinals Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ A renovation project for the locker room of the Johnsonburg Community Center was completed recently thanks to Community Development Block Grant [CDBG] funding.
