Corbett visits PA Wilds in effort to promote tourism

BENEZETTE – In an effort to promote tourism, Governor Tom Corbett visited the Elk Country Visitor Center on Thursday afternoon to highlight the Pennsylvania Wilds as a top destination for travelers as well as to mark the 100 years since elk were reintroduced into the region.

School board discusses new performance profiles

Andrew W. Biel Sr., age 87, of 424 Water Street Ext., Apt. 309, Johnsonburg, died Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.
He was born March 3, 1926 in Rasselas, son of John and Anna Barbara Biel Biel.
He married Imogene McAninch on Nov. 13, 1950, she died Sept. 3, 1985.
He resided in Johnsonburg for the past seven years, formerly of Wilcox. He attended Wilcox schools and was a member of St. Ann's and Holy Cross Churches.

Ridgway wins Elk County Golf Tournament

The Ridgway Elkers defended their Elk County Golf Tournament title on Thursday afternoon at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course, finishing in first place in the 16th annual tournament with a team score of 389 in the 18-hole event.
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders came in second with a score of 406, followed by Johnsonburg with 450 and St. Marys Area with 455. Each team was able to play with as many as eight golfers, with the five lowest scores counting toward the team total.

Lady Owls sweep Ridgway

Bradford volleyball moved to 13-0 on the season with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-18) win over Ridgway Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School.
"Bradford's a good team," Ridgway coach Janet Redmond said. "They have a lot of hitting ability that really we don't see along our way. I thought our girls did well keeping with them. I can't complain."

Ramettes end season with 8-1 win over Bradford

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Ramettes ended their season on a positive note with an 8-1 victory on the tennis courts Thursday against visiting Bradford.
At No. 1 singles, Johnsonburg's Riley Fannin defeated Hannah Burgoon 8-5; at No. 2 singles, Ashley Stolz got Bradford on the board with an 8-2 win over Cheyenne Johnson; at No. 3 singles, Paige Martonik won 8-0 over Mary Schroll; at No. 4 singles, Olivia Perez-McGill won 8-1 over Katelyn Wells; at No. 5 singles, Andrea Allegretto won 8-3 over Mandi Droney.
