Alfred E. Shippling, 81, of 721 Evergreen Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Adolph and Luisa Granitza Shippling. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, class of 1949. He also graduated Williamsport Technical Institute in 1956. He was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Co., retiring in 1995 after over 35 years of service.
Mary Katheryn Eliason, 65, of Kokomo, Ind., passed away at 8:58 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind.
Born Feb. 1, 1947 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Everett Moulden and Garnet (Heath) Moulden. On Sept. 30, 1967, in Kokomo, she married Daniel C. Eliason, and he survives.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed camping, playing cards, games, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Center.
JOHNSONBURG - A Ridgway man charged with robbing a Johnsonburg bank at gunpoint was in Magisterial District Court on Wednesday where he waived his preliminary hearing on felony charges stemming from the Jan. 8 incident.

ERIE – A Johnsonburg man charged with violating federal firearm laws by allegedly conspiring to provide guns to a Ridgway resident and convicted felon has been released from federal custody on $10,000 bail.

ST. MARYS – A bitterly cold morning coupled with high winds and icy roads in spots led school districts in Elk County to call for a two-hour delay Tuesday morning. A forecast for similar weather today led school administrators at St. Marys Area, Johnsonburg Area and Ridgway Area school districts to again announce a two-hour delay for this morning. Administrators made their decisions between 2 and 4 p.m. yesterday.
JOHNSONBURG – Junior Cameron Grumley had a career night with 25 points Tuesday night as the Rams (14-1) dominated Sheffield (4-6) in an 82-43 rout.
Grumley, who scored 13 points alone in the first quarter, was joined in double digits by fellow junior Cole Peterson with 14 points, and senior Mitchell Holmberg with 13.
