Edith E. Koch

March 26, 2012

Edith E. Koch, age 98, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Elk Regional Health Center. She was a former resident of Pinecrest Manor and Ridgmont Personal Care. Edith was born Sept. 5, 1913 in Ridgway to the late John and Matilda (Olson) Werner. On July 23, 1941, she married Francis J. Koch.
Edith was a longstanding member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, and was involved in the Altar Guild, WELCA, and was a member of Eastern Star. She graduated from the Ridgway High School in 1932. She was given a life membership to the Elks Lodge #872 after her husband's death.

Johnsonburg baseball wins season opener over Brookville

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg baseball won 5-1 over Brookville on a crisp Monday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park to open up the season.
The Rams got strong pitching from the tandem of Cole Peterson and Mitchell Holmberg as the two held the Raiders to a single run in the fourth inning.
Peterson went 4 1-3 innings and allowed a run on two hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Holmberg closed the deal as he pitched 2 2-3 scoreless innings.

DDCC presents showcase

ST. MARYS – April School of Dance presented the Dynamic Dance Competition Company (DDCC) Showcase on Sunday afternoon at ECCHS. The company, overseen by artistic director Jennifer Blankenship of Kane, performed a total of 15 pieces, including six solos. DDCC consists of 18 dancers ranging in age from 9-18 years old who are divided into three different companies. The group recently concluded their competition season.

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Marcolivio

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Marcolivio, 95, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2012 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living in Kernersville, N.C.
Born in Ridgway on Feb. 9, 1917, he was one of seven children and the eldest son of the late Giuseppe and Michalina Marcolivio. Following graduation from Ridgway High School, he entered the U.S. Postal Service as a rural route carrier in Ridgway. On Jan. 21, 1942, he married his wife, Monica Joyce Largey. The two were married for 69 years until her death in 2011.

Dance company earns top awards, will host showcase Sunday

ST. MARYS – From silver tap-dancing aliens to dancers perched atop a six-foot wall, such unique routines have consistently ranked among the judges' favorites during this year's competition season of the Dynamic Dance Competition Company, an 18-member troop from April School of Dance in St. Marys.
The group, overseen by artistic director Jennifer Blankenship of Kane, recently concluded their season, during which they brought home a myriad of top-place trophies.

Local trucking outfits feel the pinch of gas prices

Colonel Charles “Chuck” William Stover, Jr., 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Hospice House in Williamsburg, Va. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (Peggy); his children, Brian, Chuck, and Margaret; his six brothers and sisters, Garold, Eudora, Karen, Bob, Cheryl, and John; and his grandchildren, Nathan, Rachel, Braxton, and Morgan.

Randall S. "Randy" Sicheri

Randall S. "Randy" Sicheri, age 58, of Route 219, Brockport, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1953, in DuBous, son of Henry and Donna Archibald Sicheri.
He was a member at Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp, a member of the Brockway / Horton Township Lions Club; a lifetime member of the DuBois Area Jaycees; and was a member at the Horton Township Sportsmen's Club.

Ginther throws perfect game in Lady Dutch win over Ridgway

St. Marys softball pitcher Rachel Ginther had a perfect start to her season.
Ginther threw a perfect game against the Lady Elkers in an 18-0, 5-inning win over Ridgway Friday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Ginther struck out 11 of the 15 batters she faced and had a stretch of five strikeouts in a row from the second until the fourth innings.
"With Rachel throwing a perfect game, you can't ask for much more," St. Marys coach Manny Gerarge said. "It's a good way to start the season."

Municipal Authority evaluates demand response program

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg Municipal Authority officials discussed enrolling in a demand response program with Senior Program Representative Mark Diodate of Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc.out of Buffalo, N.Y. during Tuesday night's regular meeting.
Demand response programs offer incentives to users who volunteer to participate by temporarily reducing their electricity usage when demand could overrun supply.
