Gas task force continues planning, mapping efforts

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force, task force chair and Elk County Commissioner June H. Sorg commended the group for continuing to meet even though Marcellus Shale activity has slowed in the area and said the group will be well-prepared as a result when activity ramps up again.

Man is sentenced for killing mother and baby

SMETHPORT – A man has been sentenced to life in state prison for killing a mother and her baby in Bradford in 2010.
Waide Eugene Nolf, 40, of Bradford received the sentence Tuesday when he appeared in McKean County Court before Senior Judge William Morgan of Warren.
The case had been scheduled to go trial with jury selection set to begin Tuesday in county court. However, Nolf entered a plea Monday during a pre-trial conference at the county courthouse, a court spokesman said.

Johnsonburg gets a new Special Education Supervisor

JOHNSONBURG – Kirsten Wolfe is the newest addition to the Johnsonburg Area School District staff.
Wolfe now oversees the special education department as the Special Education Supervisor. She holds a Master of Science in Special Education from St. Bonaventure University, and a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education also from St. Bonaventure University.

Lady Elkers lose 3-1 to Bradford, Lady Owls lose first set of season

Ridgway volleyball lost 3-1 (19-25, 19-25, 25-23, 12-25) to Bradford Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway was able to push the match to a fourth set with a 25-23 third set victory, the first set the Lady Owls had lost this season in four matches.
