August 13th
ST. MARYS â The powder metal industry is looking for dedicated entry-level employeesâand the eight graduates of the âFit for Powder Metal Programâ course that concluded last week have high hopes that they will fit the bill.
ST. MARYS â The recently concluded âFit for PMâ class, designed to train candidates for entry-level positions in the powder metal industry, was a collaboration by several groups and is helping to fulfill area employment initiatives.

ST. MARYS â For area residents looking to spruce up a hard-to-clean surface outside their home, newly established PA Power Washing is set to cater to many of their needs. The business was started by St. Marys resident Ryan Wehler in May and offers power washing services for surfaces such as driveways, sidewalks, interior garages, brick pavers, sandstone, retaining walls, polywood decks, and vinyl railing and fences.
August 10th
ST. MARYS â The next birthday party or wedding you attend may not have the typical bunches of balloons present to mark the celebration-- a current shortage of helium means there may be nothing to fill them up with.
Local stores that sell helium balloons say suppliers have told them there is currently no new supply, and they may not be able to get more helium until mid-September or even beyond.

An emergency call was reported Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, shortly after 4 p.m. at Clarion Sintered Metals along Montmorenci Road in Ridgway Township. According to firefighters onsite, a small fire reportedly broke out in a chimney. Light smoke was visible at times but no flames were showing.
Helen M. (Sis) Rohr, 89, of 514 Kearsarge Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 8, 2012 at the home of her son in Ridgway following an illness of the last four months.
She was born Aug. 3, 1923 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Persohn) Stritzinger. She married Theodore F. Rohr on Aug. 23, 1952; he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1999.
JOHNSONBURG â The Johnsonburg Area School District Board of Directors hired three teachers during their regular meeting Thursday night.
Elizabeth Thorwart approved as an elementary teacher, placed on Master's Step 3, with a salary of $43,000 to be effective the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
Michael Tettis was hired as an elementary teacher with a Master's Step 6 at a salary of $46,000, effective the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
Mary Weaver was approved as an ESL [english second language] teacher at $23 per hour for a maximum 25 hours per week for the 2012-2013 school year.
August 8th
ST. MARYS â A St. Marys man has been arrested and charged following a July 28 hit-and-run incident on Washington Street which left a 21-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries.
BROCKPORT â Brockport resident Daniel Lines addressed speeding concerns on state Route 219 during the Horton Township Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday night.
"We want to give you gentlemen a heads up to let you know that our committee [Concerned Citizens of Brockport for the Safety and Health of Our Citizens] is going to push forward on this," Lines said.
Lines distributed a letter to the board, secretary Dennis Thompson and the general public detailing a recent incident that occurred to a Brockport resident.
The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors approved a resolution to place a referendum question on the ballot of the November general election that would eliminate the occupation tax during a special meeting Tuesday night.
The school district held a public meeting April 18 seeking the public's opinion on the Act 130 tax resolution that permits school districts to repeal its existing occupation tax and replace the lost revenue by increasing the existing earned income tax.
