ST. MARYS - Stoltz Family Dealerships is again conducting a voter-driven giveaway to area charities this year, and the company is also increasing the amount of money to be donated.
In celebration of the automobile sales and service company's 26 years of doing business with the regionâ€™s communities, Stoltz plans to give away $26,000. Last year, it gave $25,000 in celebration of 25 years of service.
Co-owner Steve Stoltz said last year's contest proved to be "very popular."
ST. MARYS â€“ Project Gifts for Elk County presents the second Antique and Classic Car Show on Saturday, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bavarian Hills in St. Marys.
Participants must provide a new toy at registration, and in return for the donation a commemorative pin will be given. All street vehicles are welcome; come enjoy a day of fun to support a good cause, delight in refreshments and hot dogs, and the first 50 cars will receive a dash plaque.
Louis R. Morelli of Ridgway will be turning 102 this Saturday, July 28, 2012.
Morelli was born July 28, 1910 in Dagus Mines and later moved to Ridgway when he married the late Marie DePanfilis. Morelli is known for being the co-owner at the Center Market in Ridgway where he managed the meat department.
â€śMy dad used to always give hot dogs away to the kids when they would come in,â€ť said Loretta Matha, one of Morelliâ€™s daughters.
Leo J. â€śBoâ€ť Winters, 83, of Water Street, Johnsonburg, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys after a lengthy illness.
Born on Oct. 3, 1928 in Johnsonburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Grace (Meise) Winters. On July 12, 1958, he married Lillian M. (Fitch) Winters. She predeceased him on Dec. 10, 2009.
JOHNSONBURG - Criminal charges have been filed in district court against a father and son for their alleged respective roles in arsons perpetrated in Johnsonburg and Ridgway in 2008 and most recently in 2012.
Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, and Anthony Karl Milliard, 28, both of Ridgway, have been charged with multiple counts of felony arson and related offenses, felony criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief, recklessly endangering another person, insurance fraud, and disorderly conduct.
The Elk County Tax Collection Committee met Wednesday at the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway to further discuss measures involved in replacing Elk County's current earned income tax (EIT) collector following the firm's breach of contract.
CENTAX was contracted to collect and disburse earned income tax monies to Elk County municipalities following the standardization of that state's earned income tax system under Act 32, which mandated one EIT collector per county as well as the formation of county tax collection committees.

Carl E. â€śJimâ€ť Pearson, 75, of Dahoga Rd., Wilcox, died Tuesday, July 25, 2012 at Kane Community Hospital.
Carl was born Oct. 19, 1936 in New Brighton, the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Doyle) Pearson, and came to Wilcox at an early age, where he was raised by his family members, the late Victor and Florence Pearson.Â
The Wilcox American Legion baseball team will open the state tournament on Tuesday against Region 4 champion Ephrata out of Lancaster County.
The Wilcox-Ephrata matchup is the second of four games on Tuesday. The nightcap is between Region 3 champion Spring City (Chester County) and host Boyertown (Berks County). Those two matchups are on the same side of the bracket.
The tournament opens up Tuesday morning as Region 7 champion Hempfield East (District 31) takes on Region 2 champion Doylestown.
Penn Hills (Allegheny East) will play Milton (West Branch) in the third game of the day.
