Concerned residents of Daguscahonda, Elk County officials, state Representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) and members of the Elk County Tea Party crowded the Ridgway Township Municipal Building Wednesday night for a public meeting hosted by the Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] to discuss instituting a public water supply in Daguscahonda.
The meeting was held to discuss the Daguscahonda public water system in Ridgway Township and the steps necessary to comply with the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Act and its regulations.
KANE – Four Kane residents have been arrested on felony charges for allegedly selling drugs.
According to a press release issued Wednesday by McKean County District Attorney Ray Learn, those arrested include:
*Travis A. Whipple, 27, of 16 Field St., Kane.
He is charged with two felony counts of drug delivery and two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.
On Jan. 23, Whipple allegedly sold heroin to a confidential informant.
On Feb. 15, Whipple allegedly sold morphine pills to a confidential informant.
*Virginia Mae Milner, 45, of 312 1/2 Welsh St., Kane.
ST. MARYS – The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, St. Marys City Police Department and the Crystal Fire Department report investigating the origin and cause of a fire that occurred at 11:32 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at the residence of Michael Scolari, 333 N. St. Marys St., St. Marys. The fire destroyed a 1999 Coleman camping trailer parked in the driveway of the residence. The cause of the fire was determined to be arson and remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $6,000. There were no injuries.
FOX TWP. - "It turned out to be a fiasco," said Charles Bloam III, tax collector for the City of St. Marys, in describing the realization of Pennsylvania's Act 32 requiring counties to consolidate the collection of earned income tax (EIT) to a single collector.
The recent breakdown of the county's contract with CENTAX, the firm contracted to collect and disburse earned income tax to local municipalities and school districts, has highlighted difficulties associated with the state's Act 32 legislation.
ST. MARYS - Adult Day Services, a Community Nurses-licensed facility, located at 625 Maurus St., will be holding a bake sale on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. in an effort to encourage members of the community to come and check out the facility.
Signs will be posted near both the Maurus and Louis street entrances to the parking lot in an effort to direct visitors to the building. Adult Day Services staff will be parking at Elk County Catholic High School in order to free up parking spots, but individuals can also park at ECC and walk over as well.
Marjorie Elaine Rhines Zimmerman, 86, formerly of 67 Luray Drive, Ridgway, experienced her final homecoming on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
She was born in Hallton, June 6, 1926, the daughter of Jay R. Rhines and Mary Lapham Rhines Hutchins. She married Robert LaRue Zimmerman on Sept. 11, 1948, in Ridgway. He predeceased her March 25, 2005.
She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible, music and spending time with family and friends.
