Pavlock 'Enjoys the Journey'

JOHNSONBURG – Kayla Pavlock, the class valedictorian of the Johnsonburg Area School District's Class of 2012, recounted her 12 years of schooling Friday night during commencement ceremonies held in front of a packed house at the high/middle school.
Pavlock recalled her early memories of moving from the elementary school to the big building on the hill.

Imbrogno 'Wouldn't Change a Thing'

JOHNSONBURG – Inspired by a quote from Henry Kissinger-- "Accept everything about yourself… I mean everything, you are you, and that is the beginning and the end… no apologies, no regrets," Tommy Imbrogno took the stage Friday night as salutatorian of the Johnsonburg Area School District's Class of 2012.
Imbrogno discussed the importance of friendship and the way in which an individual attains a unique personality.

Thomas L. Schneider

Thomas L. Schneider, 91, of 117 Hill Road, St. Marys, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 15, 1921 in St. Marys, son of the late Leo and Anna Mertz Schneider. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Parochial School. He was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1983 after 45 years of service.
On July 31, 1948 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Struble, who preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1997.

Krug enjoys summer internship at ECCOTA

Summer intern and St. Marys native Sara Krug enjoys her work directing summer youth programs for the Elk County Council on the Arts [ECCOTA].
A sophomore at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Sara is the daughter of St. Marys residents Steve and Helen Krug.

ECCHS Alumni Association celebrates oldest living member

ST. MARYS – Thursday was a very special day for Alice Wortman Magistrelli. The former Rock Street resident not only marked her 100th birthday, but also received a visit at Elk Haven Nursing Home from representatives of the Elk County Catholic High School Alumni Association, of which she is the oldest member.

Ridgway bomb threat offender sentenced

Andrew John Higdon, 22, of Ridgway, pleaded guilty in Elk County Court on Friday for having effectuated/made bomb threats against the Ridgway Borough Police Department, as well as a Ridgway doctor's office.
Higdon admitted that on Jan. 12, 2012 he placed an envelope in the mail slot belonging to Dr. Warren Henry Riegel's office at 14 South Mill Ave. in Ridgway.
According to Elk County District Attorney Bradley Kraus, the letter indicated that a bomb was to be planted in the office and that "Dr. Riegel would be killed," although the note did not expressly reference the doctor's name.

Johnsonburg man pleads guilty to felony child sex abuse charges

A Johnsonburg man pleaded guilty to 13 counts of sexual abuse of children, a third-degree felony, in Elk County Court on Friday.
The charges against Robert Gene Fitzgerald, 55, of Johnsonburg, stemmed from his dissemination of child pornography via peer-to-peer file-sharing websites.
