JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District honored two teachers for their many years of service at the start of their regular board meeting Thursday night.
"We would like to recognize two of our educators who have served our district well and who have served their profession of teaching very well," said Superintendent Dennis Crotzer. "We would like to recognize them for their years of service, not only to Johnsonburg, but to the fine art of teaching."
A plaque was presented by Crotzer to elementary teacher Elaine Steis who taught in the district for 38 years.
The Ridgway major league (11-and-12 year old division) softball team opened all-star play Sunday afternoon with a 6-5 loss to Brookville at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
Ridgway held a 5-4 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning before Brookville would score a pair of runs as the designated home team to take the victory. Alissa Watterson started the inning with a walk. After a strikeout, Brookville starting pitcher Karlie McManigle would hit a short single to first.
