Ridgway softball was honored with a banquet to celebrate the season at The Royal Inn Monday night.
Ridgway varsity head coach Gary Gerber II expressed appreciation to athletic director Manny Barbazzeni as well as the players.
“We’re here to honor all the hard work these young ladies put into the softball season,” Gerber II said.
Senior catcher Sydney Kovalyak expressed her appreciation to coaches, parents and the booster club for the banquet along with The Royal Inn. She spoke about the excitement the team had for the upcoming season.
The Ridgway Borough Council reviewed a recommendation from a Water, Sewer, Refuse and Street Committee to not enter into a water sales agreement with the Hunt Marcellus Operating Company.
A meeting was held with the committee on April 30 at 4 p.m. In attendance were committee members: John Casolo Jr., Ralph Dussia, Rick Parrish, Borough Manager Martin Schuller, Environmental Manager Paul McCurdy; and Mark Wagley and Doug Proffitt of Hunt Marcellus Operating Company.
ST. MARYS - With May marking National Stroke Awareness Month, a recent seminar was held at the Education Center at Elk Regional Health Center in an attempt to raise awareness surrounding the risk factors, contributing factors, and symptoms associated with strokes.
Thomas C. Detwiler, 60, of 42 Cottage Lane, Ridgway, died Sunday evening, May 20, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 8, 1952 in St. Marys, the son of Jane L. (Evans) Detwiler and the late Earl M. Detwiler.
He married Kathleen M. Liscinski on Dec. 28, 1974, and she survives.
Aiden J. Strack, age 48 days, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at UPMC Magee Women's Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born April 2, 2012 in Pittsburgh to Jason V. and Madeline Urmann Strack.
Aiden was a member of St. Thomas More University Parish.
Aiden is survived by his parents of Indiana; by his brother, Jason, also of Indiana; maternal grandparents William and Therese Urmann of Ridgway; paternal grandmother Martha Strack of Freedom; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
