Book chronicles final years of JFK, Jr.

ST. MARYS – On Friday evening, New York Times best-selling author RoseMarie Terenzio will make an appearance at the St. Marys Public Library, where she plans to discuss her book "Fairy Tale Interrupted: A Memoir of Life, Love and Loss." The event offers a night of recollections of John F. Kennedy Jr. from Terenzio, his former personal assistant and confidante.
The 247-page book is described as a "deeply loving story and a fascinating adventure, filled with warmth, humor, insight and five years' worth of unforgettable mistakes."

Bryson M. Schutte

April 24, 2012

Bryson M. Schutte, 87, of 3351 Montmorenci Rd., Ridgway, died Monday morning at Elk Haven Nursing Home. He was born April 17, 1925 in California, Pa., son of the late Bryson and Lucille (Ward) Schutte. He married Joan L. Logan on June 28, 1950, she survives.

Pamela J. Cousins

April 24, 2012

Pamela J. Cousins, 50, of Spring Run Road, Weedville, died Saturday April 21, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born February 21, 1962 in DuBois, daughter of James and Bonita (Foster) Cousins, who survive in Weedville.

Updates provided in East Branch Dam project

WILCOX – Recently several representatives from the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, Pittsburgh District met with area residents and other agency officials as part of the East Branch Dam Safety Project Stakeholders meeting.
The main goal of the meeting was to provide an update to local partners and agencies on the progress that has been made since the last meeting held in September.

Gypsy moth population on the rise in surrounding areas

Elk County Conservation District Manager Steve Putt reported an increase in the gypsy moth population during Monday night's regular meeting.
"The gypsy moth population is increasing again," Putt said. "If you follow the gypsy moths at all they really run in cycles so you will have a couple of years of high populations then the population will drop off and you will have a couple years of very little or no population then all of a sudden it will spike again and we are in that upward spike at this point."

Letters from Home completes its final campaign

ST. MARYS – Many gathered on Sunday, April 22 to assist in creating the final packages for the Letters from Home program. It was a day of celebration as volunteers and special guests saluted those involved.
Congressman Glenn 'GT' Thompson (R-5) visited the ceremony to offer his congratulations.
“Christine [Jovenitti] had the original idea in 2003,” Thompson said. “Since 2003, the program has touched the lives of over 600,000 contacts.”
Thompson spoke about the importance of letters from home.

Historical Society holds annual dinner

The Elk County Historical Society held their 48th Annual Dinner Friday night at The Royal Inn along Boot Jack Road in Ridgway.
This year's guest speaker was Robert Schreiber Jr., author of "Fox: Buffalo Swamp to Marcellus Shale: The History of Fox Township, Pennsylvania."
Schreiber is a lifelong resident of Fox Township and an educator in the St. Marys Area School District. He holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from Penn State University and is the president of Fox Township Manor. He is also a member of numerous community boards and organizations.

Voting for Pip begins again tonight on 'The Voice'

ST. MARYS – Pip is once again scheduled to appear on NBC's "The Voice" tonight during a two-hour live show that will run from 8 to 10 p.m. He will once again need votes to continue to advance-- if he makes it past an instant elimination by his coach, Adam Levine.

Kane native is honored for ‘Service To Society’

Having a sick child who must undergo hospital treatment is a parent’s worst nightmare.
And not being able to afford to stay at the child’s bedside is an unfathomable heartache.
Thanks to the “Pennies From Heaven” fund, financial assistance is provided to needy parents of children admitted to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. The aid enables parents to remain with their children during the stay in the hospital.
Kane native Jon R. Perry and his wife, the former Joni Detrick of Kane, are the founders of the “Pennies From Heaven” fund.

Jeffrey J. (Dad) Erich

Jeffrey J. (Dad) Erich, 51, of Maple Ave., Ridgway, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at home, in the arms of his wife, leaving behind many broken hearts.
He was born Jan. 27, 1961, in Ridgway, the son of John and Judith Shipe Erich of Kersey.
He graduated from St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1979. He was employed at Morgan AM&T. He was an avid reader, and he was a big Steelers fan.
