Pennsylvania residents who want to support breast cancer research and programs can do so simply by checking off a box on their state tax return.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition's "Refunds for Research" campaign allows residents to donate part or all of their state refund by checking "yes" on line 35 of their PA 40 tax form. Kevin Smith, communications director for the nonprofit coalition, said for most people, directing their refund to the coalition on their tax return is an easy way of charitable giving.

At the Elk County Courthouse in Ridgway on Thursday, Jonathan Joseph Bilodeau, 20, of St. Marys, was sentenced for the offense of sexual abuse of children, a felony of the third degree.
Bilodeau pleaded guilty in August to the charge, which stems from a July 22, 2010 incident in which Bilodeau distributed child pornography to a Pennsylvania State Trooper via a peer-to-peer file-sharing program on his laptop computer. The file contained a one-minute, 31-second video of a child under the age of 18 years old engaging in a sexual act.
ST. MARYS – Some people really are out for your blood - but that's not always a bad thing. Just ask Wendy McCoy, a phlebotomist at Elk Regional Health Center since June 2011.
McCoy, a 1986 graduate of Ridgway Area High School, moved back to the area from Kitanning about two years ago and works part-time at ERHC.
Phlebotomists draw blood from a patient's veins to collect samples for testing. McCoy said "phlebotomist" comes from the Greek word "phlebos," which means "vein."
"It basically means specializing in veins," McCoy said.
