November 11th
An early Saturday afternoon fire damaged an Allegheny Coatings facility site along River Road in Ridgway.
The fire reportedly originated at 12:08 p.m. when an employee at ARC Metals, a neighboring industrial facility, observed heavy smoke coming from the Allegheny Coatings building.
The site, a 48-foot by 180-foot steel frame industrial building, is a secondary location and was positioned across the street from the main Allegheny Coatings facility.
November 9th
NANSEN – No one was injured Friday morning when a fire destroyed the cab of a tanker truck on Route 66 near Nansen in Highland Township.
The tanker was loaded with 4,500 gallons of liquid wax, according to Bill Edinger, chief of the Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department.
He said the incident “could have been a lot worse” if the fire had spread to the tanker.
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District Board of Directors approved a resolution to not raise taxes above the PDE index rate for the 2013-2014 school year during Thursday night's regular meeting.

Local dignitaries, veterans and county officials gathered Thursday morning at Ridgway Area High School for a special Veterans Day program.
Ralph Tettis, chief of the Ridgway Police Department, was emcee for the assembly and introduced various borough and county officials, in addition to state Representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk), and a large number of veterans and members of local servicemen burial detail groups.
JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Area School District held their annual Veterans Day program in the high school auditorium Thursday morning.
Four Elk County residents pleaded guilty in Elk County Court Monday to drug offenses related to the operation of a Jefferson County-based drug trafficking ring.
BELLEFONTE – A last-minute stay of execution was awarded Thursday evening in a case involving the 1993 murder of a teenage girl following defense attorneys' appeals in federal court.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5887 donated over $9,000 to organizations within the community during a special ceremony Wednesday night.
A Johnsonburg man charged with using his home as a marijuana grow house pleaded not guilty in Elk County Monday to violations of The Drug Device and Cosmetics Act.
Tonight the Elk County Footlighters kick off their three-day dinner theatre presentation featuring the comedy "Sin, Sex and the CIA: An American Farce." The event runs Friday and Saturday evening at The Royal Inn in Ridgway as part of a buffet dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.
