The Elk County Salary Board shot down two motions Tuesday afternoon concerning requests from the county's sheriff's department.
Theresa Merritt, chief deputy of the sheriff department, requested the creation of a third full-time deputy position and a name-change for the "first deputy" position to "lieutenant," but both motions died for lack of a second and were denied.
A local man charged with operating a methamphetamine lab out of a Johnsonburg home was sentenced Monday in Elk County Court to serve 5 to 10 years in state prison.
Justin Edward Greene, 26, of Johnsonburg, accepted a plea agreement and in turn pled guilty to a charge of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance.
