Ridgway Elks Lodge revival

Under new management, the Ridgway Elks Lodge No. 872 at 201 South Mill Ave. has undergone significant changes in an effort to become more community active.
"We are trying to move forward in a new direction and bring it back to the way it was like from 2001 to 2006," said J.R. Geitner, who recently retook the position as general manager.
Between the Ridgway YMCA, Ridgway Public Library, and other organizations within the community, the Elks Lodge donates about $10,000-$12,000 per year.

Lady Elkers edge ECC

Ridgway girls soccer used a late goal to propel the Lady Elkers to a 3-2 victory over Elk County Catholic Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
“ECC played an awesome game,” Ridgway coach Greg Maddalena said. “They’re a different team from the last time we played them. They had a great game plan for us. I won’t take anything away from ECC, they’re a great program, with a great coaching staff. They were ready for us. Our girls always step up to that challenge. They always raise their level of play, they know what they can do and then we’re on the winning side.”

Ramettes use early comeback to drop Lady Chucks

JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes were lackadaisical in the first set Thursday night but regrouped in time for a three-set win (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) over visiting Punxsutawney.
Johnsonburg was down by as much as eight points in the first set at 16-8 before making a turnaround to take control of the opening stanza. A kill from Chelsea Benson cut the lead to 18-15 and a Katie Galsick kill tied it at 18-all. The teams traded points to a 22-21 Punxsy lead before the Ramettes showed up.

Lady Elkers breeze by Lady Tide

Ridgway volleyball remained undefeated with a smooth 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-13) victory over Curwensville Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School.
The two teams were tied at 6-all before an 11-1 run gave Ridgway the separation needed to handily take the first. Ridgway had scored six straight to start the run as Erica Thorwart served two aces and Nicole Breier had three kills. Jenna Hoffman had a kill at 15-7 and Katie Oknefski had one at 17-7. Ridgway took the first set 25-12.

Catherine A. "Kitty" Bergant

Catherine A. "Kitty" Bergant, 76, of 6515 Ridgway Rd., Johnsonburg, and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 27, 2011 at the residence of her daughter, Toni Ritchey, in Forbes Road.
She was born March 21, 1935 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Patsy and Theresa Steinbach Cherry
On March 2, 1962, in Johnsonburg, she married Donald J. Bergant, who preceded her in death on March 6, 2004.

Historical house featured in PA Great Outdoors magazine

Founded in 1855, the George Dickinson home still remains.
The home began construction in 1854 and later was completed in 1855. Dickinson built it because his original home flooded.
