Bus route changes rile parents

JOHNSONBURG – Changes to the bus routes in the Johnsonburg Area School District have forced many parents to question their children's safety.
A large group of concerned parents attended Thursday night's school board meeting looking for answers to the change.

Superintendent reviews goals for upcoming year

Ridgway Area School District superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien reviewed the board's goals for the upcoming year during Tuesday night's regular meeting.
"As you know we started to and we will continue to review our goals to help us understand why we are here," O'Brien said. "One of our goals is that our students will become creative problem solvers with the ability to synthesize and analyze possible solutions to challenging problems."
Another goal of the board is to make sure the students are receiving comprehensive literacy skills.

County accepts ‘Rails To Trails’ feasibility study

SMETHPORT – The “Rails To Trails” feasibility study has been finalized and now is available for public inspection at the county planning office.
The McKean County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday that claims the “project was completed in accordance with the grant agreement.”
“The plan and related materials will be used to guide future recreation and conservation decisions,” the commissioners said in the resolution adopted at a meeting at the county courthouse.

Charles Edward King

Charles Edward King, age 67, a resident of Elgin, South Carolina, died Sept. 8, 2011, Columbia, South Carolina following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 7, 1943, in DuBois, son of Robert E. and Betty J. Steinbach King
On Aug. 15, 1963, he married Sylvia Kay Hicks. She preceded him in death.
Occupation: Charles was a 1962 graduate of Brockway High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from September of 1962 until August of 1966. He retired from Owens-Brockway Glass where he worked in repair and construction services.

Elker golf defeats Bradford

Ridgway boys golf was victorious Tuesday afternoon with a 207-223 victory over Bradford at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Jordan Lundin led Ridgway with a 40. Josh Mitchell, Jesse Reynolds and Jake Klawuhn all carded scores of 41. Eric Matheson rounded out the top five with a 44.
T.J. Schlimm finished with a 46 and Josh Roselli had a mark of 48. Matt Aiello carded a 49 for the Elkers.
Bradford’s Josh Stauffer earned medalist honors with a 39. Jeff Cattoni had a 45 for the Owls. Tom Morlock and Josh Mongillo each had scores of 46 and Seth Mollander had a score of 47.

Ridgway boys soccer falls to Kane

A pivotal 10-minute stretch in the second half helped Kane win 3-0 against Ridgway in boys soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway.
After a scoreless first half, Kane was able to finally break through three minutes into the second half as Jack Wolfe assisted on a goal by Will Carley to put the Wolves ahead 1-0. Carley returned the favor a little over eight minutes later as he assisted on a finish by Wolfe for a 2-goal lead in Kane’s favor.
