FirstEnergy completed its merger with Allegheny Power back in late February, and while the old West Penn Power name has made its return, reportedly little else will change.
Tom Kearney, area manager for West Penn Power/FirstEnergy, said the office location along state Route 120 [Ridgway-St. Marys Road] will remain there and he hopes employees can continue providing reputable service to the community.
Works superintendent Carl Gosnell announced during a meeting Thursday night that the Ridgway Township Municipal Authority has initiated their recently adopted flushing plan.
Authority members adopted the plan during the July meeting.
"We have initiated our flushing plan that has been approved by DEP [Department of Environmental Protection] and we will be implementing the flushing plan until further notice," Gosnell said.
The plan was initiated as a preventative measure to remove excess chlorine and other byproducts from the water system.

The CWF (Championship Wrestling Federation) is returning to the area to present the "Ridgway Rumble" Saturday night, with bell-time slated for 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
"I'm so excited for the show to take place," Bill "Powerhouse" Hughes said. "The Elk County region is our home away from home. We're hoping to get up there more often."
The show is a benefit for James Bodien and his family. He was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease, a disorder passed down through families in which certain nerve cells in the brain waste away or degenerate.
Elk County has been a land of firsts for Nick Mirra.
Mirra debuted in 2009 and won his first match here, then won the CWF (Championship Wrestling Federation) Allegheny Mountains Championship last year in the area.
Now, he defends that title for the first time Saturday as he is scheduled to face “Hot Stuff” Chris Marx at the Ridgway Rumble put on by CWF as a benefit for the Bodien family. The show is slated to start at 7 p.m. at the Central Hose Company along North Broad Street in Ridgway.
Necessary revisions have been made to a competitive program contract and the county's Housing Rehabilitation Program.
Eileen R. Catalano, 82, formerly of Kaul Avenue, St. Marys, died peacefully and with her family by her side on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born in St. Marys on Oct. 13, 1928, daughter of the late Fred and Eleanor (Zimmett) Caseman.
On March 31, 1948 she married Albert A. Catalano. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2003.
She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School.
She worked many years at Stackpole and later was a volunteer in the Hospitality Shop at the Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital.

The Rising Stars 16U boys traveled to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the 2011 Division II AAU Nationals from July 25-30.
Current Ridgway basketball players Eric Matheson and Sam Roselli were part of this AAU team.
With the creation of Elk County's veterans' task force only a few months old, county commissioners heard about another program Tuesday morning during a bimonthly board meeting.
Karen Leithner, hospice manager for Community Nurses, Inc. based out of St. Marys, informed commissioners Tuesday of a new initiative, "We Honor Veterans."
Area residents and friends are set to gather Aug. 6-7 at the Ridgway Firemen's Lot for the 8th Annual St. Leo's Summer Festival.
The event will feature bingo on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 1-4 p.m., followed by a chicken barbecue open at 5 p.m. until food is sold out. The Kids Playland features new rides this year and will be open from 1-7 p.m.
The event also will have a new band performing this year as Green Eggs, a group from Lancaster, are scheduled to perform from 6-10 p.m.
ST. MARYS – A new Women in the Outdoor event, aimed at introducing area women to outdoor activities in a friendly, laid-back, non-competitive atmosphere, is coming to Elk County on Sunday, Aug. 14 at the St. Marys Sportsmen's Club.
The day-long event, running from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., is being hosted by the local Wapiti Roost chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
