Fellow soldiers show highest respect for Ken VanGiesen

KANE – Ken VanGiesen always has been a soldier's soldier.
He earned this distinction by his attention to detail in every assignment he was ever given as a 12-year member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
VanGiesen, the 30-year-old son of Tom and Sue VanGiesen of 137 Lincoln St., Kane, died Monday when an "improvised explosive device (IED)" exploded on a convoy near Bagram in eastern Afghanistan. Two other soldiers riding in the same vehicle also were killed in the explosion. Five others were wounded.

Municipal Authority evaluates wastewater system

WILCOX – Manager Jeff Allio from the Rural Community Assistance Partnership [RCAP] out of Meadville evaluated the Jones Township Municipal Authority's rate structure Wednesday night during a board meeting.
RCAP's goal is to help small, rural communities that are seeking to build, maintain or expand their water and wastewater infrastructure by providing training in the financial, managerial and operational areas of water and wastewater systems.

Louis J. DiIulio, age 84, of Sixth Avenue, Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center of St. Marys after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 12, 1926 in Keystone, son of Armundo and Viola (Cherry) DiIulio, both deceased. He married Carrie (Beer), she predeceased him in 1990.
He attended Johnsonburg schools and served in the Army during World War II in Company B, 864th Engineer Aviation Battalion. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon and Army Occupation Medal (Japan).
