Wilcox evens championship series with St. Marys

WILCOX – The Elk County American Legion Baseball League Championship will come down to one game Wednesday night.
Wilcox evened the best-of-three series with St. Marys after a 6-1 victory Monday night at Jones Township Community Park.
Game 3 of the series will be Wednesday at Berwind Park beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Drilling debate drags on

Marcellus Shale drilling again came up as a key topic Monday night during a Spring Creek Township Board of Supervisors meeting.
Supervisor Donna Kosick suggested the potential adoption of an ordinance to ban hydraulic fracturing immediately while various legal battles regarding Marcellus Shale continue.
The practice, also known as fracking, involves propagating a fracture in a rock layer while using the pressure of a fluid as the source of energy. A number of the chemicals in the fluid are said to be hazardous and may cause health risks ranging from rashes to cancer.

Police chief commends department

JOHNSONBURG – Police chief Bryan Parana commended the Johnsonburg Police Department during Monday's borough council meeting for a "fine job" in the investigations of two burglaries that occurred in June.
"Especially officer John Clopp for doing an investigation in two major armed burglaries/home intrusions," Parana said. "We ended up arresting 10 individuals in the case, recovering two firearms, and solving some additional cases."
Parana stressed the importance of the community's involvement in the case.

Farmer's Market opens

Ridgway Main Street Manager and Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Ridgway Farmer's Market. The market has officially opened for business and will be located within Keystone True Value Hardware's Parking Lot 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday throughout the summer. The market will continue to grow as the crops come in.
