ST. MARYS â€“ The St. Marys Legion edged Wilcox 4-3 on Sunday evening at Berwind Park in the first game of a best-of-three championship series for the Elk County American Legion Baseball League title.
Ben Daghir started on the mound for St. Marys, working four innings and giving up four hits, walking one and striking out five. Pat Brennen worked 1 2/3 innings, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out two. Jordan Weinzierl worked the final third of an inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.
Travel has always been an interest of St. Marys resident Jason Nussbaum, and he recently found a way to use that interest to his advantage as part of his senior research project at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (UPB). Jason is the son of David and Lori Nussbaum of St. Marys. He is a 2007 graduate of St. Marys Area High School, and while at UPB majored in Human Relations and minored in Spanish and International Studies.
ST. MARYS â€“ The St. Marys City Police report arresting Joseph White, 19, of Johnsonburg, and Ramon Santiago, 22, of St. Marys, and charging them with two counts each of robbery, four counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, one count of theft by unlawful taking and two counts of conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking or disposition. According to reports taken by the police, White and Santiago robbed Alex Weis, 22, of St. Marys, and David Sette, 25, of St. Marys, at gunpoint and knifepoint in the area of Kaulmont Park sometime between 11 and 11:50 p.m. on July 5.
Ronald J. Salvetto, 56, formerly of 566 Rock St., Ridgway, died Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 15, 1955 in DuBois, son of Pauline A. Salvetto and the late James J. Salvetto.
He had resided in Ridgway for many years and was a former Erie resident. He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1973, and had attended Penn State. He had been employed by the Gertrude Barber Center in Erie for 10 years and Hamot Medical Center in Erie for 14 years.
The westbound lane of state Route 120 coming into Ridgway has been paved while the eastbound lane going toward St. Marys remains to be finished which has warranted an uneven pavement sign. Work is expected to continue today.
