Seminar providing basic information on Marcellus Shale

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Gas Task Force is hosting the first in a series of educational seminars on Wednesday evening at St. Marys Area Middle School from 6 to 8 p.m.
Elk County Commissioner and Task Force Chairperson June Sorg, along with Jodi Foster, Elk County Planning Department's community and economic development coordinator, have worked together on planning the seminar.

Time taking toll on bridge, prices

While initial plans for the Spring Creek Bridge replacement project were to have already commenced this spring, township supervisors indicated Monday night that unforeseen errors and elevated prices have jeopardized plans.
"The state dropped the ball is what happened," said supervisor and chairman Richard Wittman. "There was a lot of stuff that the state had that fell through that should've been done. Because of that, the bids for the bridge have been postponed to probably January of 2012.

Floyd Pennington

Floyd Pennington, 83, of 101 N. Mill St., Ridgway, passed away, June 10, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center. He was born May 15, 1928, in Beaverdale, the son of Eanest and Arminta Meckley Pennington. He married Alice Johnson, she survives. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He had recently moved to Ridgway. He had lived in Florida and Connecticut prior to moving to Ridgway. He was a boiler maker who retired in York.

David Charles Fantaskey

David Charles Fantaskey, 61, formerly of the Commons in Ridgway, died Sunday morning, June 12, 2011, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 19, 1950 in Renovo, son of the late Harold C. and Gladys L. (Jordan) Fantaskey.
He had resided in Ridgway for most of his life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. He was a 1969 graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a huge John Wayne fan and enjoyed watching the Jets and the Yankees. He had been employed at ELCAM for five years.
