BROCKWAY â€“ Despite only registering two hits Monday evening, the Brockway Lady Rovers took an 8-1 win over visiting Ridgway in the first round of the Class A District 9 playoffs.
Ridgway starting pitcher Taylor Roseto allowed only two hits, both in the bottom of the third inning: an infield single on a bunt by Ann Moyer and a single to score two runs by mound opponent Alex Wright.
But the walks and errors hurt the Lady Elkers as 15 runners reached on either an error, walk or hit batsman.
PORT ALLEGANY â€“ Powerful hitting in the latter innings propelled Port Allegany softball to a 9-4 win over Johnsonburg in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs Monday afternoon at Port Allegany High School.
Johnsonburg coach Melissa Myers said the team had a good effort and played a good game.
"This was a nice playoff game," coach Myers said. "The kids played well."
Gerald Edward "Red" Bressler, 65, of Ridgway, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
He was born Aug. 12, 1945, son of the late Charles H. Bressler Sr. and Estella Marie Carr of Johnsonburg.
He had worked for the Johnsonburg Paper Mill for a number of years. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his free time throughout his life hunting, fishing and trapping in the wilds of Pennsylvania.
Annunciata M. "Nancy" McGill, 98, of 441 W. Mill Street, St. Marys, died at the home of her daughter on Sunday, May 22, 2011 after a brief illness.Â
She was born Aug. 25, 1912 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette Pultava Piccolo.Â
On January 17, 1942 in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Paul McGill.Â
