Ridgway baseball edges DuBois Central Catholic, 4-3

Ridgway baseball won its second game this week with a 4-3 victory over DuBois Central Catholic Thursday at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
Ridgway (2-2) scored once in the second inning on a double from D.J. Skraba and an RBI single by Alex Dickant. In the third, Ridgway added two more to take a 3-0 lead on three straight singles from Jesse Reynolds, Josh Mitchell and Kevin Kilhoffer.
The Cardinals came back to make it 3-2 with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Ridgway scored its fourth run on a single by Reynolds and a double by Skraba.

Johnsonburg baseball wins pitcher's duel over Curwensville, 1-0

JOHNSONBURG – Both the Johnsonburg and Curwensville coaches agreed the pitching is ahead of the hitting at this early juncture of the season.
The Rams had timely hitting in the fourth for the lone run of the game to propel Johnsonburg to a 1-0 win over the Golden Tide Thursday at Knothole Area Recreational Park.

Johnsonburg tennis falls against Brockway

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg boys tennis lost 6-3 to Brockway in action Thursday at Johnsonburg Area High School.
At No. 1 singles, Jon Carnovale of Johnsonburg lost 6-2, 6-1 to Fabio Fortunato. Mason Martonik won at No. 2 singles for the Rams with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 win over Joey Britton.
Jesse Powers of Brockway took the No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-0 over J.P. Allegretto of Johnsonburg. At No. 4 singles, Shane Bickford of Johnsonburg lost 6-2, 6-1 to Noah Serifini. Jake Parrin of Brockway won 6-0, 6-1 over Nate Fields in the No. 5 singles match.

Punxsutawney tennis team edges Crusaders, 5-4

ST. MARYS – The Punxsutawney Chucks tennis team edged the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 5-4 score Thursday afternoon at Benzinger Park.
“It was a tough day today, losing a close match to a talented, well-coached Punxsy team,” said ECCHS coach Nick Caggiano.

Elk County Catholic baseball downs Brookville, 11-2

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team earned their first win of the season with an 11-2 victory over the Brookville Blue Raiders. Originally scheduled to be an away game for the Crusaders, the game was moved to Berwind Park after Brookville's field was determined to be unplayable.
"They played well," said ECCHS coach Father Eric Vogt of the Crusaders' effort. "They got the lead and they kept it and I think Jack (Herzing) set the tone. I think he had like seven out of nine strikeouts. He set the tone for the game. We just had some big hits."
