Ben Thompson has earned a spot in the District 2 Jazz Band. As a sophomore, Ben finished eighth out of the 30 students who auditioned for the eight alto saxophone spots in the band. The auditions were held at Youngsville Area High School on the evening of Nov. 17.Â Any high school band member in grades 10-12 in Elk, Mckean, Potter, Cameron, Warren, Erie and Crawford County are eligible to audition for this band andÂ only the very best show up to audition. His placement in the alto saxophone section is quite an accomplishment as a sophomore.
The Elk County Historical Society [ECHS] will be hosting their annual Christmas Exhibit/Open House at the Center House Museum at 109 Center St. in Ridgway this Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
This year's special exhibit focuses on He-Man & the Masters of the Universe memorabilia dating as far back as 1982 and Cabbage Patch dolls; one as old as 30 years and in excellent condition.
Society director Mary Kalinowski began hosting the Christmas Exhibit when she began working for the Historical Society in 2007.
Elk County District Attorney Bradley J. Kraus responded this week to requests by The Ridgway Record for comment on his decision not to further investigate the death of an area woman whose family members, along with area attorney Shawn McMahon, claim died as a result of prescription drug-related complications.
