JOHNSONBURG – Ridgway volleyball was pushed to the brink by Johnsonburg but pushed through for a 3-2 (25-12, 25-23, 18-25, 13-25, 15-9) victory over the Ramettes Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
DuBOIS – Elk County Catholic’s Abby Meyer and Loreal Housler captured the District 9 tennis doubles championship on Tuesday by defeating their teammates, Laira Reuscher and Maria Gismondi, in the finals. The tournament was played at the DuBois Area High School courts.
Housler and Meyer reached the finals by defeating St. Marys Area’s Chelsea Agosti and Aubrey Wiesner 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals they beat Brockway’s Abigail Larson and Cassandra Foradori 6-1, 6-3.
Ridgway boys soccer lost 3-2 to Smethport Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The Elkers couldn’t have started any better as Tad Pierce exploited a hole in the left side of the Smethport defense and scored just 20 seconds into the game to put Ridgway in the lead.
In the 11th minute, Pierce looped a pass from the right wing to the head of Josh Braley and he buried it perfectly into the left corner of the net as Ridgway took a 2-0 lead early in the game.
